TERRIBLE location for one centralized IB school. Do you want kids in Fort Hunt driving to Dulles airport every day? That's pretty much the location.

They need a new Western HS. This is the perfect location and *its already built*. Have a 1000 kid HS. Have a 1200 kid HS. Put an addition on later if you need to.
+1. Totally agree.

Background on what happened in Burke. Believe me, there was no public hearing about locating by Rachel Carson. No one in the immediate area neighborhoods knew about this. I think the BOS gave them the site to make it quiet.

Where do you get that? It was NOT powerful people at other schools. It was the Board of Supervisors who needed a solution to the uproar in Burke over the Saudi plans. So, they ponied up the property by Carson that was intended for the Western High School.
The people in Burke stopped it there, and the BOS had a political problem--likely with pressure from the Obama administration to fix it. So, they gave them the current property.
I live nearby. NO ONE in the surrounding neighborhoods knew anything about it until it was a done deal. No opportunity for community input.
I don't know how this came to be, but I can assure you, it had nothing to do with powerful people at other schools.
I wasnt talking about the Burke people.

Please don’t be ridiculous. Frisch wanted a separate school for LBGTQ kids. Didn’t happen. He and Cohen wanted a separate school for recovering addicts. Didn’t happen. We don’t have enough high schools as it is now for all kids so we certainly can’t have these other programs in stand-alone buildings.
He wanted to segregate LBGTQ kids?
He wanted them to have a separate school if they were feeling bullied. He and Cohen also talked about a school for recovering addicts where they’d get more counseling and support.
They aren’t terrible ideas if there were all the money in the world. There isn’t.
I'm thinking it also might be illegal--especially for the LGBTQ school. And, a school for addicts could be quite problematic for other reasons.
