I don’t agree that John Francis Middle is crappy. I think it is solid now and will only get better.

Cardozo High, on the other hand, is a school no child should be forced to attend.

But Ross or any other Francis feeder gives you a good path through 8, in my opinion.

I work at State and feel so awful for all of our USAID colleagues caught up in the madness. Just in case that’s you, know that you have an agency full people thinking about you and constantly asking if there are ways to bring USAID colleagues on board (if they want to) in the event of the worst.

In any case, if you can eventually move anywhere in the city, you really only need to worry about lotterying your 5th grader for the 2 Latins and BASIS, in case you want those options. Wildcard is if your kids have another language, pick some DCI feeders to potentially lock down that option as well. Otherwise, just rent in the zone that appeals to you.

+1. If your DC house is already rented, then go ahead and try for Latin and/or Basis if you actually prefer those schools. But otherwise just move to wherever you want to send your kids to school that fits your budget. No need to stick to DC or worry about feeder patterns and lottery luck.

I'm so sorry, OP, I can't imagine the stress and uncertainty! I hope you find a good path that takes away stress in at least one area of your life.

I think if you are willing to rent in DC, rents are about to really drop and you can probably just move into your dream school pyramid.

I'm sorry you are experiencing job disruption etc.

The good news is Powell is fine for the coming year, so if you don't do well in the lottery you can go there and try again for 6th.

We are at Ross and i can confirm, but it feeds into FS, which is just ok.

JO in swing space would be close to my last choice of the various SH and EH feeders. I would even rank Payne to EH higher. But OP specifically mentioned it as final lottery choice #12.
