I can promise you that in most places in the country, NO ONE is thinking about or caring about the changes happening. They don't think about politics at all. And if they do, they hear about wasteful government bureaucracy being dismantled in Washington and think, "good," then go about their lives.
They don't care that malaria care is being cut in Uganda. They are happy that their state and local school district will have more control over what is taught. They voted for a guy who said he would install judges to overturn Roe v. Wade, and they got what they asked for.
You might not agree with these choices, but they aren't any less American than you are. It's called a correction. The pendulum swung too far in one direction, and now it is swinging back. I don't necessarily agree with all of it, but I also haven't wrapped myself in tinfoil awaiting Armageddon. That is my recommendation.
Look, I am a right-leaning independent who voted for Trump in 2016. What is currently happening is terrifying because it is ILLEGAL. The president has no authority to close an agency or stop allocated money from reaching its target. These are under the purview of Congress. This is basic 7th grade civics division of branches stuff. And Musk has no security clearance or authority to do most of what he’s doing. It’s not about reducing waste and spending. It’s about trampling the constitution and compromising national security.
I appreciate the thoughtful response, and I think you and I have a different understanding of the branches of government. Yes, Congress funds federal agencies, but they sit under the purview of the Administration -- which is led by the president.
I'm not sure if it is illegal to shutter the DOE, or USAID. I genuinely don't know, but it sounds like any president would be within his rights to take this kind of action. As for Musk, he was appointed by the president, he has a security clearance OF COURSE given his national defense ties, and so yes, he does have the authority to do what he's doing, all at the pleasure of the president. Again, folks might not like it, but the "No one elected Elon Musk" rally seemed so ridiculously misguided it could almost make you laugh. Every single person who works at the White House in charge of crafting policy and priorities is unelected but for two people. That doesn't make their work illegal.

It "sounds like"? No. You are wrong. We are supposed to have three CO-EQUAL branches of government. The President cannot reverse enacted legislation on a whim.

There will be no draft. The army saw a record umber of recruits in January compared to the past 15 years.
One good month can’t undo several bad decades. We have the lowest number of active duty soldiers since WWII, but nice thought…

Yep. Astounding that democrats are opposed to saving money, getting rid of waste and fraud, ensuring women compete in women’s sports, and working toward world peace.
Democrats want death and destruction.

Get him a disqualifying diagnosis. Trump has taught all our young men how to do this. I don't know if that bone spurs thing that Trump used is still available but there are others.
