MCPS 2 hour delay at best.

3 inches will close schools

1 inch will close schools here. In fact, don’t even need it to happen-just the prediction itself will cause at least a delay!

To clarify and update for the people who aren't weather-obsessed:

1. Accumulating snow has been pushed back to Tuesday NIGHT, into Wednesday morning, with something Wednesday night (that might be wintry mix). Schools could have a full day on Tuesday, but cancel after-school activities, or perhaps do an early release. Wednesday is sure to be closed. Who the heck knows for Thursday.

2. The snow totals that were lowered drastically yesterday are now creeping back up, with maximum snow totals still to the south of DC. Stay tuned on Monday for finer predictions (hopefully, sometimes it's not clear until AFTER the event ).

Yep, major walkback from all the models. Now it's like 5 inches if we're lucky...
With 5 inches on Tuesday, kids will get a snow day on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Now some models only show 1-3 inches. Are you talking about the same snowstorm, original poster?

The OP was talking about the forecast when they started the thread…

Today’s update https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2025/02/08/dc-winter-storm-snow-forecast/

“Here’s how much snow is predicted by several computer models:
American: 5 to 9 inches
UKMet: 4 to 6 inches
European: 2 to 4 inches
Canadian: 2 to 3 inches
German: 1 to 3 inches

“The really heavy snow some models showed has dropped away. Now any snowfall is more likely to be light to moderate amounts, perhaps in the range of 2-4 or 3-5 inches, depending on where the band of heaviest precipitation coincides with temperatures near freezing,” said Wes Junker, Capital Weather Gang’s winter weather expert. “Though even those modest amounts could be hard to reach with most of the precipitation falling during the daytime hours.””

They are still showing mixed precip and rain for the later in the week weather events.

It's behind a paywall so please keep posting what they say. Thanks.

Sorry, I didn’t realize CWG was always behind the paywall! Here’s the relevant bit:

At the moment, the European and American models show almost identical snowfall probabilities, which are approximately:
Chance of more than 1 inch: 85 percent.
Chance of more than 3 inches: 50-60 percent.
Chance of more than 6 inches: 20-25 percent.
“Tuesday is our best chance of seeing a modest snowstorm. Something in the 3- to 6-inch range seems possible,” said Wes Junker, Capital Weather Gang’s winter weather expert. “But that’s definitely not a sure bet, as any northerly trend in the storm track could bring warmer air and more of a wintry mix, which would reduce snow accumulation potential.”

And then they say that any storms after Tues seem more likely to bring a wintry mix or just straight up rain as it’s looking to be a few degrees too warm for a big snow event.

Thank you!
