No, the governor said it doesn't count toward school days.
I predict on time. The current superintendent has never closed for temperatures. I remember my first 10 years in FCPS, it was a given that single digit mornings = delay, but then she came and we opened on time multiple single digit mornings her first year. Staff was shocked and felt like we'd been lied to about bus abilities for so long, lol. Short of major mechanical issues, I think we will be on time.
Alexandria schools (multiple of my kids friends in that area) all did distance (asynchronous) learning the week after winter break.

Sure there will be a few slick spots for walkers, but they will be okay. Remind your kid to decide whether to walk on the sidewalk or on the grass depending on how the sidewalk looks. It’s manageable. Drivers will check their buses and the vast majority will start. We can all handle a variation from normal.
It’s the negative wind chills when they’re at the bus at 630 am or walking half a mile to school that’s the issue babe. It’s the combo of ice AND polar vortex . In no world are they on time with single digit temps and negative wind chills. Obvious delay. Gives them time to warm up buses and get to at least 10 degrees before tossing kids out there.
Our local forecast has wind chills of -1° for tomorrow morning. That's really really cold.
It is cold, and there are clothes for these types of situations. Or layers.

I can’t stand school staff calling students “kiddos”. It’s so unprofessional.

A) gives the buses more time to start
B) 2 hours could be the difference between 5 and 10 degrees. Maybe not a huge difference but one that is worth factoring in some time to try to get to. There’s literally a hypothermia warning, I don’t know how you guys think they’re putting kids outside in that.
Current Weather Channel forecast for western FFX is 10° at 6:00, 13° at 9:00.
