First of all, you can host if you want to. You have the ability to make dinner for their child or throw a sleeping bag on the floor and let him spend the night.

It seems to me that these people are perfectly nice to you and your child. I don’t think the issue is that they are wealthy, but that they don’t understand what it’s like to not have family and friends around and to rely on more peripheral friends for support. If they have parents, grandparents, siblings, old friends, etc nearby, it probably didn’t occur to them that they are likely the closest adult relationships your child has outside of his immediate family, and that not asking after him would be hurtful.

I don’t know that there is any good way to communicate that to them, but it’s something we can all be a little more thoughtful about.

Just to clarify, parent of friend 1 never came over, just their child. Their like was in reply to my first mention to them of the accident.

Why did you even mention the friend #2 thing if you’re not going to say anything about it? So annoying.
