Think something like this----wide leg trousers (or a trouser skirt, perhaps), a fitted top, nice belt and shoes, tasteful jewelry, maybe a cropped jacket or cardigan to layer if needed. Not necessarily this color scheme, but winter white never hurts. I'm not a Gwyneth fan in general, but she's pretty good with outfits that are appropriate in multiple settings.
She is always amazing. I would look just massive in this. Turtlenecks are v bad for the busty and I think this is too much white. Idk now I am torn asunder! You all have made this impossible for me! Ha
Use it as a guide. You can change the colors, swap the turtleneck for a silky blouse. Just think polished while still being comfortable. Tailored pants with some flow to the legs are a great starting point.
I have many silky blouses and trousers etc etc as I’ve been a partner for a long time, but I specifically wanted some kind of more casual but still appropriate look for this dinner. I’ve been swayed by all those images of sweaters and sequin skirts.
Are you OP? Or a PP? I thought OP said she was going to a partner's dinner for her spouse.

To clarify, I intended to wear booties with the beige outfit of a suitably fancy type.
The combat boots were with the long dress and sweater, much as it is styled in pictures.
DP, but combat boots with anything to a firm dinner is a really bad idea.

I think some dressy ankle booties in caramel suede with a medium heel could dress it up and might work. A heavier gold necklace on top could break up the off white.
