It wouldn’t offend, but it would be a turn off for me. I like to decide how/if I want to do makeup, how I style my hair, and what clothes I wear. I prefer a partner who appreciates my look when I’m dressed down and dressed up.

This is what’s annoying about it.

There are a few men who prefer really outdoorsy type women or very religious women who don’t wear make-up. But most men who say this just mean that they prefer natural looking male-up, not your splotchy reddish skin and crazy eyebrows.

You misunderstood.

You would look a lot better with a little makeup. Try it for a week and report back: you will see that people treat you better in most circumstances.


I’m treated quite well. I’m very successful in my career and I’ve been happily married for many years. I have a very active social life. I can’t see how makeup would improve anything.

I believe I look great as I am. Whether others agree isn’t my problem. Those are their insecurities; not mine.

Want to try things my way? It’s cheaper!


No thanks. I like applying light makeup to look my best in the morning. It's part of my self-care ritual. I enjoy feeling pretty.


And I feel pretty without it, and I feel I look my best after a good night’s sleep… no make-up necessary.

So you do what makes you feel good, and I’ll continue to do things my way.

I don't wear much makeup so I'd be thrilled with this. But most guys don't actually want a no-makeup look, and don't realize it's usually artful makeup they admire.

Agree. But I also assume he means no obvious makeup, including foundation.

But a couple dots of a light concealer where needed, one swipe of a natural looking mascara, some lip and cheek tint- no man would complain about this.

I'm not offended but I'm not doing what you prefer just because you prefer it. And I would think it's an odd, controlling, trying to be dominating thing if the subject was mentioned more than once.

I actually don’t wear make up, ever not even on my wedding day. IMHO men who says this don’t mean me. They mean people with very skillfully done makeup.

But I’m certainly not offended.

I think this was also in the first episodes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, show, so probably not uncommon in those days.

I remember seeing some talk show a long time ago about how this older woman went to bed with makeup on so that her husband wouldn't know what she looked like without it. He had no clue she was doing this. She would wakeup early before him to "put her face on".
