I’m uncomfortable with the environmental impact of the manufacturing process for batteries as well as disposal of them.

I live in a sfh and street park and even if I didn’t the city won’t upgrade power to our house beyond the 200A we have but also won’t permit the addition of a charger with our current service. My neighbors who have sufficient service are finding that the city engineers are throttling their EV charger permit approvals because the infrastructure for our neighborhood is insufficient to support the significant increase in demand for power. We aren’t sure if they will upgrade the grid near us or if this is a long-term constraint. Adding solar is not a solution because it isn’t counted as additional power in our permitting process (western state that’s not CA).

So if you are still driving around in a polluting gas car or SUV, why exactly is that?

Because I don’t want to participate in the tech bro RWNJ culture that electric cars have become. Looking at you, Elon.

Not junking my cars that are working just fine.

Don't want to wait for charging when we take longer trips.

Hate Elon though realize there are other options.

It is still working. Our 2007 Prius is still working well - hit 200k miles and still get 50mpg.

We just got a second car and went EV. the lease deals right this moment made it so leasing an EV was cheaper than a gas car! For me to adopt, that’s what it needed to be - there are some unknowns to making the switch and a car is a huge investment. Yet EVs still have super high MSRP. I hope the incentives to buy these cars will continue, and/or prices will drop, since it is good for us all to get them on the road and phase out gas.

Agreed. I can only imagine driving out the middle of nowhere in Wyoming and the tumbleweeds are going faster than I am as the car is slowly running out of juice.

I have an electric, and it's great for around town. But for road trips--no way. For that I have a plug-in hybrid.

The infrastructure for electric just isn't really adequate yet for road trips, for apartment dwellers, etc etc.

OP, I am a doctor and need to reliably get to work. So for that reason gas has made more sense. Now that range is so much higher, it is easier to imagine my life in an EV.
Also, many EVs had issues with crash test worthiness. There have been huge improvements in that area. Next vehicle will be an EV.

I rented one on a road trip and I found it super frustrating. It was hard to find a charging station and it took a very long time to charge. Also the risk of fire is frustrating.

I barely drive and don't use a car often.

I’m too scared that the charger will catch fire in my garage and I want to use my garage. I don’t want to deal with the hassle of charging it when I travel and honestly I don’t care that much about driving a gas guzzler.

Agreed. Also, I have rented a few when traveling and did not enjoy driving them or the "range anxiety". For example, It turns out that you don't get 200 miles when driving in a mountainous area.

I drive an F-250, so I'm exempt from your wrath.
