I am not trying to take away from your kid at all, but I bet WVU is actually a 100% acceptance rate...it's just that 10% of the applications are technically deficient...school never sends the transcript, or the kid never went to the WVU application portal and filled out their senior year courses.
WVU student population dropped nearly 30% when the plan was there would be more students today vs. 2013.
We'll take it. Still accredited (as far as I know) and it's not Liberty.
It is a great school! And if costs are only $43K (when OOS costs are listed as $50K) your kid got some merit or FA.
Personally a bit more than I'd be willing to spend for a kid with only a 2.55 in HS but good school.
OOS tuition $28.6k + r&b $12.9k = $41.5k. Plus very generous merit. WVU is an often overlooked solid option for students that want a large school with D1 sports, but weren't strong students in h.s.
Too bad it's in a red state.
The reason why WVU is in such bad shape is because most of the WV HS students do poorly in academics and aren't ready for college.
Guess that's why more than 50% of undergraduates are from OOS.

I would think good state schools will become more competitive? I think people will become less likely to take out huge amounts of loans for expensive schools and unlike most of DCUM, many families cannot afford 200K plus for undergrad.

I’ve got a hs junior who gets asked about her college plans by all the adults every time we see them. They can’t really think of anything else to ask her.
Same and have already had 3 relatives share this article to say, see, it isn't so bad, you should be able to get in anywhere you want.

I have met a few Liberty kids and would hire them in a second again. They are polite and work hard and not partying so no issues with showing up to work. Once
you get a few years at work where you went to college doesn’t matter.

UChicago had an acceptance rate in the 30s as recently as 2005. That was before they sold out to the Common App.
I think Uchicago was in the 50s when I attended, back in the early 2000s. But it was a rigorous school with strong academics and very bright students, and I got a great college education.

It's not a meaningful measurement. It's a vanity metric.
It IS a useless article because it's based on 2022 stats. Does not take into account the scotus decision, elites dropping test optional, increase of full pay international students and myriad of other factors
None of what you mention indicates that acceptance rates are going down…and things aren’t much different today vs 2 years ago…if anything acceptances are even higher at schools ranked 30+
