That show has not aged well at all. Rory is a selfish spoiled brat who treats everyone poorly. She cheats on all of her boyfriends and uses everyone. The show is filled with racial and cultural stereotypes. It’s really hard to watch now.

Just popping in from the adjacent Vermont thread to give a shoutout for Norwich, VT. Read the book “Norwich” by Karen Crouse for a mostly accurate overview of the town.

I live in a city, Hoboken, but it sort of has that vibe. It is hyper-local with friendly faces everywhere and yet the city is right there.
Awww. Lived in Hoboken for years and I’ll always miss it. I used to describe it to people as being like a Richard Scarry book come to life.
What? I went to school in Hoboken and it is not a small town. It’s a nice community sure, but not at all like Stars Hollow.
It’s not a small town at all, but I agree on the Richard Scarry vibes. Only place I’ve ever lived that had walkable shops and services for every possible need. Hardware store! Paint store! Cobbler! Italian market! Another Italian market! Bakery! Fishmonger! Plus a train station and a ferry terminal and people of every kind.

I didn’t feel very anonymous in Hoboken, but it definitely isn’t a New England village.

Minus the drunken college students. My brother lived there for years and the downtown was cute but every weekend I stayed at his house, I was woken up by the drunk college kids walking down the street. No thanks.

Hahaha! It’s ugly with a very busy street with something like 12 traffic lights. Huge developments everywhere. Ugly housing stock. No pretty, charming town square. It is insular and homogeneous, though.

I live in a town about 45 minutes outside of Boston that people jokingly compare to Stars Hollow. It has a small downtown, colonial town common and church, solid schools, and small town vibe. Coming from a big city, the lack of anonymity takes some adjustment, but overall it's a great place to live.

100%. We even have the wacky small town characters. It was much more like SH ten years ago, though. The development boom and surge in housing prices has taken away some of the small town vibe, but as someone with kids in the schools, it still feels VERY small.
with homeless people all over the place
