No, USDA is a Department. The Department of Agriculture. ERS and NIFA were two Agencies within the Department of Agriculture.

My agency gave up office space in HQ and moved to smaller footprints outside of DC. I moved from DC for my husband’s job and worked a few days a week from a field location. That location moved further away and I reduced how often I went in. I would have to quit or move if I were required to go daily - I’m not spending 3 hours a day commuting!

I interviewed with an agency and asked them if administrations differ: they seemed surprised by the question and let me know that things were easy under Bush but that they had to work their butts off under Obama.

You are assuming business as usual, this is not 2016. The Musk efficiency commission goal is to gut the government. They don’t care about the consequences and if nothing gets done that is the point. Musk will study it for like 2 weeks and then take an axe to agencies. If they have the trifecta then they can pass a law authorizing mass firings (house is still in play).

Musk has autism and severe ADHD. He’s really not going to focus on any of this for more than 5 minutes. They will take some sort of symbolic streamlining - a bunch of retirements from people who are already retirement-eligible and firing people who are not adhering to RTO - and call it a win.

And then life goes on.

These guys are really into symbolism and bombast.

Same reason why I don’t think Trump will roll back CHIPS Act or Infrastructure bill - there are 10,000 projects and he gets to smile next to a giant sign that says “This chip foundry brought to by PRESIDENT TRUMP.” He could spend all four years doing photo ops next to these signs; it’s his favorite part of the job.

100% Symbolism. Bombast. Showmanship. Photo-ops. Vendetta settling. That's the next four years. I hope all the people who got sold the story will pay attention and keep track of the promises that were made and not kept.
