Some people are weirdos about trees.

I'd be pissed they trespassed on my property. For example, who knows if the tree cutters were self insured? If not, they could try to sue if they got hurt on your property. It's not ok to enter someone else's property without permission. To clarify, were they actually in your yard cutting, or cutting them from his side of the property?


When they came around to cut the branches on our side, they were in our yard. We spoke with the crew and they were very apologetic - the foreman said he's been doing this for 25 years and knew that the owner's directions were wrong/illegal. We told him it wasn't his fault, just wish he had refused to do it.



So, the experienced, licensed, bonded, insured professional knew that it was illegal to trespass on your property and cut your tree for his personal profit, but did it anyway, and you told him that it wasn’t his fault?

We have a tree on the property line. The other house is a rental. We prune the tree since we want them to be healthy. We tell/ask them the pruners will need access to their yard on x day. . Can not imagine only pruning 1/2:a tree . Terrible for the tree.

I would actually call the police and make a report. They were trespassing and damaged your property and knew what they were doing was wrong. I would also sue both parties.

Imagine something had gone wrong and someone had gotten hurt. They trespassed on your property and ruined your tree. A lopsided tree is more susceptible to tipping over at some point. I’d also find out the price of a similar sized tree (there are actually companies that will bring in giant trees with huge root balls).

I cut my neighbor’s tree branches that are four feet into my property. Every fall, the tree creates a mess on that part of my property where I have evergreen shrubs with flowers underneath.
My neighbor didn’t say a word.

My thought is that they realized how lopsided the trees looked after cutting the branches on their side, so decided to make it all symmetrical by taking the liberty of cutting on our side too. These were full pine trees, and the lower branches provided the privacy screen. Now we have what look like a child's drawing - tall tree trunks with branches sticking out starting about ten feet up.


Lopsided trees fall over. It wasn't wrong to cut both sides of the tree, it would have been wrong to leave one side full.

Also, I see lots of tall pines that are bare at the bottom until 10-15' up. OP will adjust to the difference.

Funny you said this - we used to have a fence that we took down about ten years ago. Regretting that decision...


I had a fence and my neighbor cut back all the plants on our side of the fence when we were on vacation. The neighbors were self centered azzholes.
