There was a sketch in the free local newspaper maybe 2 years ago. Plans might have changed, but that sketch and short article suggested the 2-story section adjacent to Giant and CVS will be demolished first, then a new larger Giant will be built in that area. The CVS will become free-standing with a drive-thru window and moved into part of the current Giant parking lot. The current Giant - and the empty formerly-Verizon building on Beverly Rd - will be demolished and replaced by 1-story retail.
The increasingly vacant strip shops along Old Dominion Drive will be demolished and a low-rise building with underground parking will replace it. The low rise building will have ground floor retail. I do not recall if floors 2-5 of that building would be office/medical or residential.
Several businesses (e.g., Preppy Pony, Child’s Play Toys) already have relocated to other shopping centers in McLean (which also are owned by McLean Properties). Short-term leases are necessary because they will be demolishing a bunch of old (some are 75+ years old) structures. To their credit, McLean Properties IS trying to keep existing tenants in McLean by shuffling spaces in their other retail properties in McLean. There also has been coordination on all this - and on the broader DT McLean revitalization - with McLean Citizens Association and formal consultation with the community by Fairfax County.
