Would have been more appropriate to pray for health, safety, wisdom and grace for both candidates.
And you’re free to go ask that parish or any other to celebrate a Mass for that intention.

To be clear: what was read was a prayer offered by a single parishioner (whom we all hope was praying for Trump to wise up and step down). Other prayers of other parishioners would also have been read at the same time.
It is quite clear that a person who adheres to the Catholic faith could not in good conscience vote for Trump. Some will anyway, but most will not.
But it’s ok for a Catholic to vote for the candidate that does not want any restrictions on abortion? Gotcha.
Yes you moron. I am Catholic and go to church every Sunday. I am obviously voting for Harris. I would not get an abortion unless I had to, but that doesn’t mean I should vote to remove that option for other women, Catholic or not.
You can keep on denying you are one of those christian nationalists, but we all know you really a christian nationalist.
I am PP, I don’t give a crap about what anyone else believes. I don’t take my religion too seriously, nor wear it on my sleeve. I couldn’t be more pro life because that’s what Jesus was. Abortion existed when Jesus was around, do you ever read about him punishing those in the Bible? Did he punish gays in the New Testament? Strict dogmatic Catholics are nuts. I am a Catholic but am smart enough to know there are terrible people in Catholicism - including many many priests and leaders.
BS Jesus was not pro life
Jesus would not want women dying
But He’s just fine with scrambling a baby’s brains or cutting their limbs off in utero because of a one night stand?

As at a typical Sunday Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes in Bethesda, prayers were given for the living and the dead, the infirm and the Church.
But on this day, the reader ended the prayer of the faithful with some unusual words:
“We pray for the intention of Donald J. Trump, for whom this Mass is being offered today,” a parishioner remembered hearing at the late-summer gathering.

Meanwhile both maternal deaths and abortions rose post-Dobbs so even if you disregard his waffling on abortion and every other thing Trump does that is inconsistent with Catholic doctrine (which is a lot as the Pope has noted) I still don’t get why you think he is “pro-life”.
They should lose their non-profit/religious exemption.

NP. Harris/Walz do not support “no restrictions” on abortion. But anyway: to answer your question? YES. Why? Because when you are in the voting booth and are casting a vote that will shape policies for ALL Americans, your Catholicism has nothing to do with that. Your PERSONAL choices are your personal choices: good for you. But those choices should not have anything to do with what is best and right as far as what choices are available to your atheist, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Wiccan, etc., NEIGHBORS.
And if any Catholic or Christian doctrine does make it into the booth, it should simply be: do unto others as you would have done unto you. What you would want “done unto you” does not include having your hands and your doctor’s hands tied by laws when it comes to what is right and best for your body.
Nothing was more humbling than for my extremely Catholic cousin to, unfortunately, have to undergo a D&C for her WANTED, PLANNED third baby, but the pregnancy was not viable and not getting an emergency D&C would have killed her. She now votes Democrat and actively works to expand abortion rights in Tennessee. After all, she believes GOD SPARED HER WITH MEDICAL CARE some years ago, and she no longer would have the same care today.

Anonymous wrote:Wording's a bit vague, and I'm not Catholic, but I think almost any a theistic religious person can agree to pray for Donald Trump at soul. No matter what you think of him, he's a major figure at the moment, and the course of his life affects all of us. Trusting God with a prayer to move Trump to a better position is a religiously a good thought.
