As long as you're in the intersection (over the crosswalk line) when the light turns red, it's legal and you won't get a ticket. You will get a link to the video if you ever get a red light ticket and can confirm for yourself whether the ticket was properly issued. I once got one of the tickets in MD (the only camera ticket I've ever gotten), watched the video, and I was clearly in the intersection when the light turned red. Called them up and ticket was voided.

There may be a racist aspect to it, but it seems there is something about living in Maryland that makes everyone a worse driver. Even people who move from VA/DC to Maryland note their driving becomes more "Marylandy" over time. Seems to apply to MoCo, PG, southern MD, Frederick, anywhere else within commuting distance. You have to get pretty far away from the urban areas of the state to find chill drivers again.

As someone who lives in Maryland by the DC border I can say with certainty that there are plenty of bad DC drivers as well flying through my neighborhood.

The Maryland suburbs have plenty of speed cameras. I incorrectly got a speeding ticket in PG county when some clown passed me at high speed and was clocked just as s/he passed me. The three pictures on the citation made it clear that it was the other vehicle, but the only option to contest it was to appear in person and so I reluctantly paid the ticket to avoid the hassle.

DC cameras will not ticket you should you get stuck in an intersection when the light changes, but proceeding across an intersection when you are not sure that you will be able to clear the intersection is rather crappy driving behavior and is the primary cause of gridlock.

I’ve managed to live in DC for decades without incurring any camera tickets. It’s really not that difficult.

When I taught my (also) black kids that Maryland drivers are butt, I was thinking of some hill jack from Gaithersburg, but now that you mention it, the brothers from PG can’t hoop without traveling and drive like sht.

This is total nonsense. Very few are the instances when I can discern the race of a driver who speeds past me, cuts me off, turns without indicating, runs a red light, or generally drives like a nutcase. But I can see their license plate. And their license plate is usually Maryland.

In my experience as a resident of NE DC for nearly 20 years, the vast majority of people who drive remarkably poorly and dangerously in my neighborhood are black. That being said, most black drivers I see drive neither poorly nor dangerously.
