Has anyone seen them return to the shelves yet?

I still have a stockpile (but no ultras, only supers), but it's starting to run low.

Has anone tried the non-applicator ones at Whole Foods. I know they have Seventh Generation and another brand. I was going to try those when I run out.

Saw this and thought, "Wasn't there some discussion about this on DCUM?" Maybe this is the "online forum" to which the article refers?!

Here is an update to my contact with the Maxim hygiene company who I contacted when I found out the OB Ultra tampon was no longer available. (which had me in a total panic!)

About the super plus non applicator tampons themselves:

The Maxim Super plus non applicator tampons are made with 100% CERTIFIED Organic & Natural Cotton and they do NOT Use bleach (which causes DIOXIN residue ) they instead use a safer process using natural Hydrogen-Peroxide. There is no rayon in their products either!

Other products use Wood Fluff Pulp, which is NOT environmentally friendly (it ends up in the destruction of a LOT of trees). Maxim uses 100% cotton, no chemicals, no plastic, no yucky stuff you don’t need in your body! YAY AGAIN!!

The more I have researched about Maxim, the happier I have become! I have also come to find out that it is a company that is run by women! YAY!!

Here is my correspondence from the company when I told them about our plight:
—————————————–
Calli,

I am very surprised from the way Johnson & Johnson responded to their loyal customers. As I mentioned we are manufacturing our tampon products in Europe and they are made with 100% Organic cotton. By using the Organic Cotton, we are eliminating the effects of different carcinogens such as Dioxin and Asbestos from most intimate body parts of the tampon users.

For more details, please visit our website at http://www.maximhy.com. The Product Video Presentation found on our website is a MUST SEE! For a quick overview of our product line, please make sure to check out the Sideshow Presentation found on the homepage by clicking on the “What Makes Maxim So Different?” link.

We have enough supplies to support the demand by these ladies for the next few months. We can also order another container load of products to be shipped ASAP. If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me at your convenience.

Healthy Regards,

Kenneth Alvandi, CEO

———————————————————————————————

I have also personally spoken to Rebecca, the owner, on the phone and she assures me she is on board to help us in anyway she can and that includes doing what it takes to get these products shipped into your local drugstores! She is listening and she cares!!!

Until then, Drugstore.com is still a reliable source to get them shipped to you as well. I have ordered 2 times from them and they were shipped out quickly. There is no need to pay $90 for a box of black-market OB Ultras online when there is already a better and safer alternative out there!

I have used the Maxim Super Plus tampons and can personally vouch for it fitting the same way as the OB ultra. It was as absorbent, as comfortable and as protective. (and i am a very heavy bleeder!) But now I have also come to find out it is much safer for my body! That is a serious plus!

It is so nice to know that there is a company out there that is listening to us, thank you MAXIM! I hope this helps provide the information and support that the ladies here need! We gotta stick together on this stuff!

((((((hugs to all)))

Here's a story on the O.B. disappearance from the Boston npr station:

I am in western Ontario and am finding a few boxes on the shelves here and there. I anticipate that they will be gone soon.

I live in Vancouver British Columbia and the shelves are empty. No OB Tampons anywhere. I went online and they are selling them on Ebay for like $50.00 for a box of 40. Johnson & Johnson said they might return to the shelves in 2011. No specific dates. This is beyond acceptable. No warning, just gone. I have used OB for decades - the best on the market. I had to now buy Tampex Pearl - they leak, they are way too long, they just don't fit and I hate them. I have gone to multiple stores in search of the OB Tampons but none are to be found except the ones on line for a fortune. I am very dissappointed with Johnson and Johnson.

SPRING 2011 for OB??? OMG! I am in Philly and last month they were hard to find but I found them so I thought my local Supermarket was running behind on stock. I had to buy Tampax Pearl and it's TERRIBLE. I generally use the yellow OB's and had to change the Tampax about once every hour. Going back to an applicator after all this time seems like I stepped back to the stone age.

How does the DIVA cup work with a very heavy flow? At least one day during my cycle I am literally dripping in the shower. Sorry if that's TMI.

SPING 2011?!?!?! Sigh

I've never tried OB, so many people here have suggested it, I must give it a try. I hear the PP on the dryness, even a normal tampon can be a problem without the "gentle glide" applicator.

About the Diva Cup, that always grossed me out. Don't you keep it up there for 24 hours? I have to think there would be a stink factor that would turn me off from that. The whole concept just creeps me out. Can the PP explain the details of the Diva Cup?

I'm the PP that posted about Diva Cup. No, you do not leave it in for 24 hours. On my very heavy days, I actually have to remove it every hour. That's why tampons don't work for me. I overflow way too soon. According to the website it can be left in for up to 12 hours. It's messy the first few times you use it. Takes a little getting used to. I had a big problems with tampons because they dry me out. I'd hate when I had one in, and it wasn't time to change it, but I knew I was about to get in the car for an hour...so I had to take it out too soon and it hurt! Diva Cup doesn't dry me out and I can change it as often as I want. It's a lot easier to change it at home, because I have access to a sink so I can rinse it out. In public bathrooms I just dump it in the toilet and then wipe it out with a little toilet paper before inserting it again.

Oh. My. God. You're very lucky you haven't gotten a terrible infection. That's disgusting.

The basins of public toilets are filled with feces. Other people's feces.

Oh. My. God. Can you read?

She's not dunking the diva cup into the public toilet. She's dumping the contents into the toilet. Save your horror for a different post.

You don't dunk it, you just pour it out into the toilet and wipe it off with paper.

Playtex has good tampons. Their plus or super plus are great! I have also switched to the Diva cup and only need a pantyliner for the an overnight or two. Amazon sells the Diva cup, but I paid like $33 at Whole Foods for mine.

If we're going to get all personal here, there's only one flaw of the Diva cup. It is silicone and is slippery upon removal. I have dropped that damn thing in the toilet once every cycle! It's just a hassle because then I have to stop whatever I'm doing and boil it before reinserting. Am I the only one with this problem?
