The Abbey Gate Families and Survivors invited Trump to lay a wreath in remembrance of the day and the Fallen. The Families invited Trump and wanted him present.
It was fine for him to be present but photos and videos were not allowed. But Trump would never do anything like that if it wasn’t recorded to benefit him in some way. And then Trump’s team assaulted the Department of the Army employee who asked them to stop breaking federal law. 32 CFR § 553.32(c) holds that memorial services and ceremonies at Army National Military Cemeteries will not include partisan political activities.
Trump was the invited guest of Marine Families who have dead children buried in Arlington. When your child is blown up and killed in Afghanistan, and buried in Arlington, you can invite whomever you want lay a wreath at their grave. If you want a picture with them, you can take a picture. You are allowed that as your child is gone forever and died violently in Service to America.
The video of Trump laying the wreath with the disabled female Marine vet was livestreamed.
Sounds on brand. The law doesn't apply to Trump, and MAGA always makes excuses for him anyway. You support a really bad guy. He wasn't there for the family. He was there for himself.
+1. If he had been there for the family and not the campaign, he would have taken any private photos the family requested (legal) and not made sure to shoot a campaign ad (illegal). This is the part of the cemetery where the are active funeral taking place. The disrespect for everyone else who has also recently lost a family member and wants the privacy to which they are legally entitled is disgusting.
Maybe there were people there or fresh graves of the recently deceased who didn’t want to be in a Trump campaign ad. Why can he not respect their wishes. And, you know the law.
Visit, participate in a memorial, take photos for personal use. But, don’t engage in partisan politics on Section 60 of Arlington. Clear, simple law. Rather than obeying the law, Trump had his goons physically assault the people working at Arlington who asked him to obey the law. Disgusting.

Seriously MAGA? He could just have some common decency and not film the graves of the recently deceased whose families he insulted as a campaign as. Just once, he could attend the memorial without making it a campaign ad? His staff couldn’t use their words than than manhandling civil servants at Arlington who are trying to do their jobs in a nonpartisan manner?
Now consider the episode with John Kelly at his son’s grave. Look, the fact is that if you support this low-life, it’s because you are one yourself or you’re just in complete denial regarding how he views you. I’m a NYer, i have family who knew him and know him. The man sees anyone who isn’t from LA or NY as a hick, if not worse. He doesn’t care if you’re UMC in some DC suburb or some rich nobody in the south. He sure as hell thinks you’re a loser if you’re serving in the military and making almost nothing.
And don’t stupidly think I’m a Democrat. That you think anyone has to be, to see this repugnant man for what he is, is why you must be a low-life or dumb.

“Abbey Gate Gold Star Families Endorse President Trump and Invite Him To Wreath Laying Ceremony.”
“…which he proceeds to use to support his campaign, breaking federal laws”
There you go.
Calling attention to this is not the flex you think it is. It reminds people of that horrible day and draws eyeballs to the actual campaign ad that the families filmed which is absolutely gut wrenching. But, please, keep bumping this post.
Oh we will. Because it allows us also to discuss the fact that Trump's terrible, horrible, no good deal with the Taliban is what led to the casualties.
PLEASE do this. Like every day.
Okay. And we'll accompany it with an image of a disrespectful, unserious Donald grinning and making a thumbs up while standing on the graves of soldiers.
What we cannot do is post a picture of Trump in France at the cemetery commemorating the hundredth anniversary of the end of WWI because Trump didn’t go. He didn’t want his beautiful coiffure wrecked in the rain.

Federal law prohibits political campaign or election-related activities within Army National Military Cemeteries, to include photographers, content creators or any other persons attending for purposes, or in direct support of a partisan political candidate’s campaign,” the statement said, adding that “a report was filed” over the incident.
