As someone who coached against them last year, and scouted them deeply, they are returning almost 100% of their roster from 2024. They finished as a top 8 team in 2024 and are returning the highest % of their team in the state
They are returning 16/18 players that routinely touched the field last year, including their Jacksonville commit Grant Maloney.
They are in my top 5 going into 2025 and wouldn't be surprised if they make a state championship push
Thanks WestPo dad!

All the other talk here is just noise, this here is fair though. Now, who wins the district tourney championship? That's been 4 years running for Yorktown? I think Langley get it this year.

Looking specifically at the Liberty district it will be hard to tell who will be hurt the most due to graduation but one thing is for sure each team will be down from last year. Yorktown graduated the most seniors including their top scorer in program history, goalie, fogo, 3 of their 4 starting poles, and 4 - 5 mids. McLean also had a big senior class including their top scorer, 3 of their 4 starting poles, both goalies, fogo, and arguably the best d mid in the state. Langley had the smallest group of seniors but their impact will definitely be felt. They lose their top scorer in program history as well as another 1st team all district attackmen, their top offensive midfielder, 1 starting pole, and their d mid that pulled most teams best offensive player. The argument for Langley is clear they return the most proven starters. That being said I think it's a toss up between them and Yorktown with McLean on the outside looking in with the potential to upset either on the right night.
Last season Yorktown fielded arguably the best JV in the state outside of Riverside and Freedom. This group is packed with the younger siblings of proven players from the past. The offense will be led on offense by #37 Nate Randles (70 points 24') and Eli Pilch (51 points 24'). Logan Kaetzel and Mikey Cowan Should provide some depth. The defense will be led by 2nd team all district #2 Evan Beeman to lead the way. Mitchell Fergueson Owen Lefton and PJ Cooper should all be in the mix to fill in the remaining spots. Goalie and Midfield will be the biggest question marks moving forward. The goalie battle will be between Senior Gabe Edmeades and the lefty Sophomore Shane Campbell.
Unlike Yorktown who will be looking to a lot of new faces to carry the torch Langley will lean on a deep group of returners to lead the way. Langley reminds me a lot of 2024 McLean. Strong midfield, defense, and goalie. Their midfield should be this teams deepest unit led by #7 Cole Samburg (1st team all district fogo) who is probably the second best overall mid in the district. He will be joined by #6 Kevin Mahoney (Second Team All District) #12 Wilson Buttz (Second Team All District) and #5 Ethan Cash. They also return 4 senior poles including starters #4 Brigg Carton (1st Team All District)#1 Owen Slamowitz #24 Matt Chen and #16 Brendan Oakes. At Goalie Langley returns 2 year starter #30 Logan Schwartz and picks up One of the top players in the freshman class Luke Milone. Even with this a lot of Langley's success or failure will fall on the shoulders of #8 Jack Milone (2nd team all district) and Ellis Farah on attack. While Milone has proven to be a true scoring threat in big games the question is who will fill the other spot. Outside of the Yorktown game Langley's JV put together a good season but the offense was not their strength.
Don't Sleep on McLean... We get it. The Highlanders like the Saxons return a lot of players that saw a decent amount of action last year. Starting with hands down the best player in the district in midfielder #3 Max Mullen (73 Points). They also return fellow midfielder #4 Landon Moore (20 Points). Look for #19 Christian McNeil (26 Points) and #25 Ethan Jones (14 Points) to have a break out year offensively. #15 Gaulder Maul (7 Points) and Griffin Ferris should be in the mix as well. McLean's biggest question mark is can they replace what was one of the most dominate defenses in the state last year. While this years unit may not have experience on their side they will once again have benefit for size and athletic ability. #2 Thomas Terminella and D Mid #7 Levi Stockwell are the only players that saw significant time last year. #24 Michael Bablitis #77 Jack Schomer and #23 Jake Bell are most likely the front runners to round out this defense. Samuel Brown did a good job on JV last year and will most likely fight for the starting roll this year. There's a good chance McLean is going to need to seriously slow games down this year if they plan to replicate last years region finals run.
This is really impressive. As someone that follows High school sports and specifically the Liberty district Lacrosse closely this was really thorough and I'm not sure how you were able to get all this info. It's hard to get this info on just one school. With that being said I think this will be a 5 school race for the district. Herndon and W&L will upset one or more of the top 3 this year. It's going to be a fun competitive year again in the Liberty.
W-L has zero chance of winning districts. They lost to Langley 23-3 last season, McLean 16-2, Yorktown 14-3. Not that much has changed. I agree with the long poster - likely Yorktown or Langley but McLean has a shot with those two middies able to pump in goals.
