It was clear that they had peeled off the letters that said "Pence" and then replaced it with "JD" instead of using "Vance," which struck me as weird. I'm guessing they peeled the Pence letters off a long time ago and just didn't want to put so many letters back on for Vance, but using Vance would have covered up the old Pence lettering better and made it less obvious that they were reusing the sign.
