TROLL. There are NO FCPS elementary schools that run from 9:00am - 3:30pm.

Ours sent out some programs you can pay for - one at a local martial arts place and one that will take place at school. But they didn't say anything about a free option. Though you're still supposed to fill out a form if you need care provided. I'm lucky to have a 6th grader who can walk home and be alone for a couple hours til we get home from work. Or maybe I can swing working from home that day.

There will probably be two options, a paid school enrichment option and a free play on laptop option.

You see them leave at 3:45....do you also see them arrive at 7? You are the ridiculous one.

No, the school part (pre-release part of the day for all) is still school, and the free childcare part (post-release for parents who need it) is free childcare.

Because they have a certain number of hours they are required to work. Like McDonald's workers. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to make teachers hourly workers but they should be taken out back and shot like Kristi Noem's dog. (obviously not literally shot.)

We're in a wealthy area of FCPS, and our school's plan is the ST math, lexia, independent reading thing. My DD of course will choose screen time over independent reading. Would love for her to attend an organized sports camp on these afternoons and would pay for it, but haven't heard anything aobut that.

It isn’t the PTO’s responsibility to cover this. If they can, great, but it shouldn’t be people’s expectation. FCPS made this decision and they need to figure out the plan, not pass it along to the parent groups to cover.


22:04 here. In addition to the PTA arranged sports camp, as a no cost option, the school will provide IAs, school monitors, school staff and central office personnel to oversee time for students to complete hw, STMath, Lexia, MyOn, independent reading



Yeah this is absolutely a valuable and age-appropriate way for 4-7 year olds to spend hours. This is truly embarrassing.


You could pay for an after school activity or you can just graciously accept the free day care.
