The point is that the moped drivers don't have the ability to obliterate an entire family as does the operator of a four ton murder machine. But continue telling yourself that they do.

Murder machines! This silly rhetoric really misleads people about what is actually happening. Lets look at some official government stats, shall we?

In 2022, there were:

-a grand total of 17 people in Washington DC who were killed by car drivers

-nearly as many deaths, 15, were blamed on bicyclist/pedestrian/scooter errors

-there were 203 homicides

Those 15 bikers/pedestrians would be alive if they make their “error” with a moped instead of a car.

Weird how even when it's not the car driver's fault, it's still the car driver's fault.

There was a recent accident in which one person on an e-bike drove into another person on an e-bike and one of them was killed. Still a car driver's fault, though, right?

Do you not understand that a car is inherently more deadly than a moped?

Car drivers are the most law abiding people on the road.

Look at the numbers. In 2022, there were 17 deaths attributed to cars. That's out of *billions* of trips taken. There were 15 deaths blamed on cyclists/scooters/pedestrians. How many people ride bikes or scooters in this city? Maybe 500?

Maybe cyclists and moped drivers should learn how to ride safely.

No. Actual studies say drivers are less likely to abide by road rules than bicyclists. You can easily find these studies with a simple Google search. But be forewarned that reality may necessarily not be in the business of affirming your silly prejudices.

Funny that you cite 2022 data. Probably because you know that there were more road deaths in 2023 than in any year since 2007.

A woman in my DV neighborhood was killed on a crosswalk - which she was crossing with the signal - by a driver who literally had thousands in outstanding unpaid fines. But she doesn’t matter, right, because she is only one person? And we shouldn’t worry about the driver either because s/he only accumulated a couple of dozen tickets out of tens of thousands of trips right up until the point where s/he killed someone.

Moronic, bigoted blowhards like yourself make me absolutely sick.

Hey dipshit, I'm just looking at the official data the DC police department puts out on traffic accidents. 2022 is the latest year they have.

It's pretty shocking though that only 17 people were killed by motorists, and nearly an identical number were blamed on cyclists/scooters/pedestrians. Doesn't really confirm the lies we see here every day, does it?

How demented do you have to be to argue that there is no problem at all with DC drivers and the policing thereof when we have elderly woman literally being mown down on crosswalks by drivers who have accumulated thousands in fines and faced absolutely no consequences thereof?

Calling other people schoolyard names will not make you any the less nuts.

Oh, you're the poster who weirdly believes that non-motorists found at fault were somehow killed by themselves. They weren't. They were also killed by motorists.

Obviously, you don't even know if cars were even involved in those accidents. The data doesn't say.

We don't know if the non-motorists killed by motorists were killed by motorists? Yes we do.

If you were actually interested in traffic safety, you would look at police press releases. Yes, we do know that they were killed by motorists.

So you're just a serial liar? Here's what the police actually say, complete with citation:

In 2022, there were 35 traffic deaths. The causes were:

Pedestrian error -- 12
Speeding -- 9
Driver drunk or stoned -- 4
Driver error -- 4
Bicycle error -- 2
Medical emergency -- 2
Scooter/Motorcycle/ATV error -- 1
Hit and Run/Unknown -- 1

It's rather sad that your critical thinking skills are so deficient that you believe that summary statistics like this - particularly given that MPD refuses to publish the underlying crash reports absent a FOIA - vindicate your silly and nonsensical prejudices.

I really have to wonder whether you take these kind of positions in meetings or even conversations with others? Please tell me where and when I can witness this? I love to hear you make the claim in person that DC drivers are perfectly safe and law-abiding. Please let me know how we can make this happen.

+1

I work in Gallery Place and have almost been hit by one of these guys on K Street just north of Gallery. The guy ran a red light and turned left into a group of pedestrians. I do occasionally see cops parked at 5th and K, but when they are not there the moped drivers do whatever they want. I am not against making a living but am against driving into a group of pedestrians or driving on the sidewalk.

The difference is that a car would kill all of them; a moped, much less likely. I watch traffic carefully and have not see the moped drivers (the Latino delivery drivers) ignore traffic lights but did almost get creamed by a driver turning on a red arrow yesterday.

Well I have seen it many, many times all over downtown. They’re a menace to pedestrians.

Also, as someone who has had to go to ER after hitting my head in an accidental fall on the street in DC, I cannot even imagine how much it hurts to get hit by a moped, even one going 10-15 mph. It is absolutely not a minor thing to drive a moped toward pedestrians who are in a crosswalk.

If you think getting hit by a moped will really hurt you, you should try getting hit by a two ton SUV.

It's laughable to anyone who bikes or walks in the city that they drive safely. I guess you get off on knowing they annoy people, which is fine. A few will turn themselves to pancakes annually and hopefully they don't hurt too many pedestrians along the way.

Oh, you're the poster who weirdly believes that non-motorists found at fault were somehow killed by themselves. They weren't. They were also killed by motorists.

Obviously, you don't even know if cars were even involved in those accidents. The data doesn't say.

The number of homicides is very high, and the number of traffic deaths of all types is very low.

I live part time in Jakarta. I mean, the place is an objective living hell. And the moped drivers are just a small part of it.

Illegal aliens from Venezuela. Have you ever driven in Caracas? This is how they drive in Caracas.
