Those two articles are about why pit bulls snap, meaning bite at the air as a warning. A dog who snaps in that sense doesn't make contact, they are trying to scare you away because they are overwhelmed by something.

A dog that snaps like that shouldn't be in the passenger cabin of a plane, or be working as a service dog. But the answer to what you do when a dog that isn't yours snaps at you, is "move away".

OP seems to be using the word "snaps" in the same way that the PP above used "psychotic break" to mean something different.

Well, if a dog “snaps” at you on a plane, you can’t move away.

Even if the dog was so well behaved that you didn't even notice it was there?

We don't necessarily want to hear your children on the plane but, we all have to deal with things we don't want to deal with.

Yes, I would be extremely pissed if there was a pitbull seated near my child and would request a seat change. Especially since they no doubt totally lied about it being a service dog.

It wouldn't be a psychotic break. Biting and latching on is in their DNA.

If a child surprised it. A flight attendant dropped something. Someone out of their seat tripped during turbulence.

Planes are unpredictable. And so are many dogs in the hands of idiots.

But OP wasn’t seated near the dog.

The dog was actually in the row behind me. Unnerving.

Now I'm starting to think you're a troll. You didn't even know the dog was there!

100%
OP has some sort of anti-pit agenda. None of this is factual or even close to.. possible. But yet she persists. Troll vibes fosho.

No way passengers dont hear kids on the plane, but apparently this dog was so silent and perfectly behaved they couldnt tell. Keep your crotch goblins under control and stop complaining about angelic dogs.

A toddler can't murder you with their teeth, psycho.

Psycho? Says the person who didn't even notice a perfectly behaved dog and then flips her sh!t after the fact?

Yeah, right. Look in the mirror.

I have a family member who does this with his dog. He claims it's a service dog then lets everyone pet it. It's infuriating to me that people take advantage like this.

So options that you may have if you find yourself in a similar situation would be to see if you can move seats away from the pitbull or choose to deplane and get on a different flight. The dog was so quiet that OP didn't even know it was there. Hard to insist that a well behaved dog be kicked off the plane because of what may or may not occur. Btw, I was bit unprovoked by a dog when I was a kid so I'm not a huge dog apologist. There are bad dogs and there are bad dog owners (though 99% of the time a dog is bad because of bad owners).

Where did I say I wanted the dog kicked off? I simply had no idea irresponsible dog owners would bring a violent dog inside an enclosed tube with no escape and want a mental toolkit in case one snaps on a later flight.

-You dont know the owner is irresponsible
-You dont know the dog is violent (actually you know its not, because you didnt even fucking notice it)
-Stop fear mongering when you dont have two brain cells to rub together

Anonymous wrote:Was this a service dog with a service vest? Not even Emotional support dogs are allowed on planes any more. Dogs that are small enough can fly in an approve pet crate/bag in cabin.

This makes no sense.

Most service dogs do not wear vests, and since vests are available on the internet with no paperwork, people with fake service dogs often put them on them. Given that only service dogs are allowed on planes, a vest does not make a dog more likely to be a service dog.

If the dog was allowed on the plane, and was so well behaved that OP didn't know it was there, it was likely a service dog.

In all fairness, both sides are pretty unhinged and insulting. It's neither impossible to hold an intelligent conversation between the two. I'm more on the anti pitbull side, but I can recognize some of their points make no sense either.

But the dog....wasn't violent. In fact, it was so well behaved you didn't even know it was there. And you asked what about the future. And that's your answer. You either ask to move seats away from dog or you remove yourself from the plane.

I don’t understand this. Even anti-pit bull groups do not advocate that pit bulls are like loaded guns, ready to attack at any moment. Are you seriously saying that this breed is somehow posed to attack everyone at every moment, without provocation? Like placing a lion on board a plane, or a cobra???
