Why are people talking about Florida and Ron DeSantis? The only undocumented immigrants Florida gets are from Cuba and they are welcomed with open arms. What am I missing here?

You’re trolling, but the entire point of having planes land in blue areas with no advance notice, and therefore no planning or preparation for an influx of undocumented immigrants, is to create a crisis for those blue areas. People sneaking across the border aren’t sending their itineraries in advance of their arrival, so DeSantis and Abbott are making the point that bleeding heart liberals should have to walk a mile in their shoes in terms of dealing with the humanitarian crisis. They don’t give a shit about the human suffering inflicted on the people they dump elsewhere.

I’m a progressive who thinks it’s entirely fair to spread out undocumented immigrants throughout the country while they’re pursuing possible amnesty, instead of making border towns absorb them all — but it’s just plain cruel to deposit them someplace where no one is expecting them, no preparations have been made, and it’s not even during business hours for local aid organizations. They’ve dropped off immigrants from South American countries in cities in the NE in the midst of bitter winter weather, without regard for the immigrants’ lack of winter apparel. It’s inhumane, and it’s been done this way specifically to stick it to the libs, but the undocumented immigrants don’t deserve to be used as pawns.

However immigration is just a bandaid to a much bigger issue of certain countries being run by drug lords. We can keep letting people into our country in theory, but then there will just be new children being born there and new arrivals fleeing this same violence. So we’re forever treating the symptom of the violence and 100 years from now our grandkids will still be having the same immigration debates.

Why can’t more be done to help these people fight back and get actual leadership that isn’t corrupt?

US has provided those countries a ton of aid, but the government is corrupt and/or the drug lords are stronger. Look at how the mayors in MX are gunned down. There's a news story of this happening just this past week.

MX is a narco state. It is owned by the drug industry.

Not our problem, the penalties for illegal immigration need to be very strict to discourage other people from attempting it. They should be deported and receive a lifetime ban from immigrating to the US, if they are caught crossing the border outside a legal port of entry. We cannot save the entire world from unfortunate circumstances and wanting a higher paying job is not a valid reason to move the US. I don't think they are trying to ruin our lives, but the US cannot take millions of fake asylum seekers every year. This is completely unworkable and it creates a significant burden for US taxpayers. You are ridiculous, I am not being entitled I am having a discussion about out current (dysfunctional) immigration policy. If anything the entitled people are the ones moving here illegally that expect the US government to give them housing and food (covered by US taxpayers).

What about the ones coming here who want to work, pay their own way, pay taxes, live without fear, have decent schools for their kids and opportunities to live a decent life and have a future? You are ridiculous if you believe the right wing brainwashing that tells you most immigrants just want to live off the government.

So you think we should allow effectively unlimited immigration and let 10M+ people move here annually? I am not against immigration, but there needs to be a reasonable limit and severe consequences for breaking immigration laws.

Most people in the County supporting immigrants does not mean that we want to pay yet higher taxes for even more social services for immigrants. Look, certain schools in MoCo are now largely focused on bringing up the bottom (typically the immigrants from Central America, many who are illiterate in their native tongues). I moved to MoCo for the schools, yet ended up having to pay for private, at extreme cost, to simply insure that my kids got some teacher attention.

Speak for yourself. I would happily pay higher taxes for programs that brought more migrants here as took care of them. And I support raising your taxes too, because I and those who care about these people shouldn’t have to do it alone. You can afford to chip in some more, too.

With just what you’re spending on a private each year ((to keep your precious little darlings away from brown children)) you could help dozens of people from other countries who came here with nothing. That’s how much your taxes should be raised - by whatever you’re paying in tuition each year. You can clearly afford it.

I would prefer that money to go into a fund for reparations rather than people who have no ties here and often break laws along the way. Not to mention we don't have any background info on these people or medical histories.

Also, these folks coming to MoCo have their A number, which I assume, means that they had their cases heard by a judge.

You can get into the weeds all you want, but what is undeniably true is that DC is trying to pull a TX and bus the migrants to MD.

DC are trying to send all. Montgomery County is only agreeing to accept families with children.

That is the dumbest policy I have heard of from MOCO (in a long time) has a lot of stupid ideas. Why would we only agree to accept the most costly migrants that are going to be a drain on county finances. Children and elderly people don't work or pay taxes to MOCO. So they won't be self-sufficient and MOCO will also need to provide social services for them. Around 64% of school funding is derived from local tax revenue. Every migrant child costs the county around $13,300 a year for schooling.

DC should deal with its own migrant issue and Moco shouldn’t be agreeing to take any.
