I echo Chevy Chase and parts of Bethesda (20814) that are walkable to the downtown area. Edgemoor in particular is really lovely and is probably where I’d look if I had a $4MM budget. From there you can walk to the farmer’s market, the library, the metro, the main commercial strip of Bethesda, and lots of restaurants.

CCMD is not a racially diverse area, but I grew up there in the ‘90s/early 2000s as a non-white kid and was absolutely fine. My parents still live there and have never had any issues. Bethesda also has a ton of immigrant/international families of all colors.

I would also look at Amalyn in Bethesda. It is a new construction neighborhood but is well laid-out with walkable streets, no through traffic, several small parks and playgrounds, and a community pool. There are some larger houses available on Silver Linden in the 2.5-3.5 M price range.

We lived in AU Park for years before needing to move to McLean VA for my husband's job last year. I miss it and would move back in a second. We had the best neighbors who became our second family. We loved walking to City Ridge and the various restaurants on Wisconsin and Mass, Ave. Miss it!

Both walking distance to metro and lots of stores, restaurants, movies, etc. I think more to walk to in bethesda than most of Upper nw dc ( i lived in Cleveland Park as comparison, there's not much there)

I think those are old. The school was massively rezoned two years ago and is just barely 50% white according to MCPS, with a smaller communal feel (the school is maybe 2/3 of the enrollment as before, or maybe even less). 12% Black, 18% Hispanic, 7.7% 2+ races.

It has a bus. The Metro in Foggy Bottom is too far for most people in Georgetown.

Also, it’s literally the opposite of a car-dependent neighborhood… parking is a nightmare! Lots of people out walking to shops, restaurants, retail at all hours.
