It’s his private property.
Must be why he blamed it on his wife.
Just like Menendez. I guess blaming the wife is the one thing the right and left can agree on.
Why is it so hard to believe the wife turned the flag upside down?
Why is it so hard to believe that he knows this is a terrible look and he's throwing her under the bus?
This. I was married to a guy in a public role/job that came with a ton of rules and I was well aware that I needed to be mindful of them too. Optics matter. Professionalism matters.
So, not allowed to disagree publicly with your husband?
When did Alito say he disagreed with any of it? He just claimed to be uninvolved.
Then he was uninvolved. She is allowed to express herself

My husband was too professional to even express a political opinion. As it should be. He didn’t discuss politics with anyone. His own children didn’t even know where he stood politically until he retired. I shared my opinions with my friends but would never publicly take a position, no. I didn’t volunteer on campaigns until he retired. I can’t emphasize this enough but that is how it should be for roles that are non partisan and it’s sad that this seems to shock people.
That is your choice and it is not shocking at all. Mrs. Alito was allowed to make a different choice.
Do you have the same criticism for Judge Merchant donating to Biden?
A catastrophically stupid response.
What is the catastrophe?

Anonymous wrote:To be clear, I think most of us are not arguing that it is illegal for Alito and his wife to fly a flag upside down or any other manner on his private property, or to burn the said flag, or display a neo-Nazi or Hamas flag for that matter. But we would like Justice Alito to recuse himself from any case that comes before SC that has anything to do with the insurrection or people involved in it. Because the Justice has demonstrated at least the appearance of partisan bias that could affect his ability to adjudicate impartially. Whether that actually happens or not is beside the point. It is the appearance of bias and lack of impartiality that's the problem.
Apart from that, as many have pointed out, this would violate the ethics standards for any public official who needs to demonstrate impartiality, including lower court judges. Unfortunately, noone seems to be empowered to hold SC judges accountable for ethics violations, other than SC itself. Wonder how Roberts will react to this. It must be of some concern to him that the SC is rapidly losing its trust among citizens, which is crucial for the court to retain its status and power, and incidents like this do not help.

Thank you very much. In the omnibus corrupt Supreme Court thread I said this is what your side would try as an excuse.
Really? Defending free speech now is an excuse?
Anyways, here is link to the hatch act.
Please read it. Alito did nothing wrong.
https://osc.gov/Services/Pages/HatchAct-Federal.aspx
So you're suggesting that they needed to add a bullet to cover federal employees supporting an insurrection? I'm not sure they had that much foresight that this was needed when pulling this legislation together.
Both he and his wife are allowed free speech. They did this on their own property. His wife is allowed to be her own person - he does not own her and she is not bound to the SCOTUS ethics.
Believe it or not, woman can have their own opinions.
Hahahaha. This former general’s wife thinks this is hysterically naive. The fun thing about being married to guys like this is that at we don’t get all the ethics training they get but we can 100% make mistakes that end their careers.
Yeah but you probably got guidance. My husband was a low level nobody in an agency that definitely had rules and both he and I abided by them, as I’m sure you did, too.
Just Samuel up here thinks he can do whatever he wants, which, to be fair, the GOP has said he can.
