It’s more like the casting that’s laughable not the pairing. The actual story/book is very sweet. It’s just how they have upgraded him and downgraded her.
Is the Penelope character not obese in the book?
lol Nicola Coughlin is not obese, you dimwit.
?!
She is very obviously obese.
Doesn't mean she's a bad actress (she's fantastic, especially this season), or is ugly (she's adorable). But she is obese. If you think otherwise, then you probably need a reality check about your own size.
It’s hard to tell on screen and in gowns. I don’t know exactly how overweight she is, but either way she’s lovely.
+1, I agree with the poster who said she's midsized. I think she reads as heavier in the regency gowns because the style does not emphasize her waist and overplays her chest, which is large for her frame. But I follow her in Instagram and she's actually quite small, just with a big chest. I think the PPs calling her obese would be surprised if they met her in person and discovered she's probably smaller than they are. She's also 5'1", which only exacerbates the issue of the weight the camera and the costuming adds.
Here she is on a recent red carpet. She's naturally very curvy but not obese:

Anonymous wrote:Obese is a clinical term and she fits it, though if you yourself are not clinically obese you might be surprised how small a person can be and still be considered obese. Midsized (14, 16, 18) is generally also obese for a shorter person like the beautiful Nicola (and like me.)

From previews, it looks like they've done a great job improving her dress and style without making her look like an entirely different person. And she and Colin have plenty of chemistry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKhh9VerYms

He was a total jerk.

Deblin, not Colin (currently on episode 4).
I mean, I kind of agree. He's way hotter and hasn't treated her as poorly as Colin. I think that's why they are setting up the last part of the season to be all about Colin finally realizing what a catch Penelope is. She's smart and sweet and a great life mate along with attractive. She's absolutely the diamond of the season..
