For cheap dresses that I expect to wear in very sweaty weather, I like Uniqlo. I have this dress:
https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E467115-000/00?colorDisplayCode=65&sizeDisplayCode=003

And this one:

Got the Banana Republic one for my mother for her birthday but I might keep it. Little shapeless but the white is not see-through and great pockets.

Like those Uniqlo dresses.

Like the BR one too, but the V seems like it might be too low. Also wonder how it would look belted.

I've seen this Target dress on a few insta posts, enough that I am intrigued:

https://www.target.com/p/women-s-long-sleeve-cinch-waist-maxi-shirtdress-universal-thread/-/A-89465084?preselect=89551759#lnk=sametab

It's long sleeve but I've mostly seen people style it with the sleeves pushed up.

That looks like a bedsheet. Especially the green stripe one.

I tried it on - shapeless and strange. Hard pass.

This dress is on the clearance rack at my Target. I think it was a solid design, but doesn't look good on most people.

I'm 49 and I don't really like sleeveless or wide open backs and I look better in clothing that is fitted (the whole shapeless linen thing doesn't work for me although I wish it did).
I also can't really do the gauze, ruffled tiers that are everywhere. I feel like I look ridiculous and 95% of the women I see in these (over the age of 30) don't look great either.
I don't like dresses made of athletic material.
I already own the Anthropologie Sommerset dress (which I like well enough although I'm a little bored by it).

Any thoughts?
I've been scouring the ends of the internet with very little luck.

Jude Connally? I like them. The dress I have is sort of swimsuit material, and I wouldn’t say “fitted” but not ruffled. I think they sell ruffles too though. It’s just really easy and easy to wash and hang dry.

This is the kind of stretchy swimsuit-y fabric. It’s not clingy. It doesn’t stretch out or wrinkle. I’m sure it’s not for everyone but might be worth trying.

Faherty's dresses are very well made and usually have pockets. I had to hem one last year and it actually had loose stitching at the hem so it was easy to detach and fold up. Also, plenty of material to make longer. The seams and button holes were also very nicely constructed. I love their stuff.

I've been browsing - and buying from - ThredUp. You can search for summer dresses in your size and specify you want cotton and linen, or whatever fabric you like.

It's not a GREAT search engine but I've found some good stuff. A lot of good stuff. Often at incredibly good prices.

I might have a bit of a ThredUp problem.

Does Biden run true to size? I've never gotten anything from there, but this is cute!

Generally yes, although sometimes on the smaller side. Definitely read the reviews.

I got a nice dress from H&M last year. Cotton and not flattering but very chic and comfortable. Black and White graphic floral print.

I recently got this Land’s End dress and am happy with it. I’m short and a bit roundish, but this hides it fairly well.

Pretty, but way too expensive
