I remember visiting (touring) downtown DC in the summer heat. Everyone drank from water fountains when they were thirsty. No one carried around any liquids.
By the 80s, food turned to processed junk. Lots of Kool-aid, crystal light, nesquick, sunny D to drink. Various junky snacks. While there wasn’t as much fast casual take out, dinner was often canned soup casserole concoctions, Hamburger helper, Shaken
