I think they appreciate the gifts, but they don’t care if someone doesn’t send something. They won’t hold it against you and your child if you don’t donate to the PTA or send in something directly.

I’m the poster who gives individually. If they cancelled the week I would still give a gift at the end of the year to show my appreciation when my daughter has an extraordinary teacher.

I don’t understand trying to make it exactly even across when the whole idea is…appreciation. Obviously I appreciate the teacher who had long conversations with my daughter about Norway when she went through her tedious Frozen phase more than I appreciate the one who literally shrugged when I asked how my daughter had gotten a black eye while under her supervision. It seems almost foolishly obvious that I personally would appreciate those different people differently.

Just so you know-even the teachers you deem great.....don't care what you think. Parents on here somehow think teachers are just losing sleep over their opinion. Nope. And we deal with a lot of parents with barely a pulse phoning in their parenting. So keep your Starbucks card.

I don’t do it so the teacher will value my opinion— though I believe that some do— I do it so my child learns that our family recognizes extraordinary effort on their behalf and doesn’t take it as a given.

And since we have teachers in our family I know better than to give a Starbucks gift card.

That is nice and there are some sincere people....teachers and staff appreciate it when it comes from the heart. Most of us prefer and value a note or cards from the kids. We don't need it though so the parents who make a big deal and need lots of validation for doing it....we don't need it. Parent your kids teach them to respect the staff at school-teach them that school is for learning. That would also be truly appreciated.
