Guess those wrap around services have little effect if you are killed on your way to them...RIP.

Sorry, but some people just are incapable of living in a civilized society.

Sentencing a minor to life in prison without parole is unconstitutional. You can thank Lee Malvo for that case law.

I know this, but I disagree with the logic of that SCOTUS decision. There are some rare circumstances where a minor is so violent and dangerous it's just not worth the risk to everyone else. Eg. the Browning case in MD where a kid killed both his parents and two brothers for inheritance money, may be eligible for parole starting in 2031 with "good behavior". A kid that does something like this does not deserve a second chance and it violates the rights (and safety) of the general public to give someone like this parole.

Y’all need to stop analyzing Sct opinions you don’t understand.

So … you think you are a lawyer but aren’t?

You do not understand “that case law.”

DC can keep their crime infestation to themselves.

I truly believe that parents need to start getting arrested for the crimes of their children.

DC consistently votes in and supports elected officials who could care less about crime and cleaning up the city. DC is great and I loved living there.

Stuff like this just affirms my decision to move to Loudoun in 2019. Very little crime out here and the Sheriff and Commonwealth's Attorney are tough on crime so I'm grateful for them.

At least 20 years in jail (or at least until age 40) would pass constitutional muster.

If they jump the gates there’s no “record” of them being somewhere and they can’t be tracked. The shooter was caught on camera although in the pic I saw his face was partially masked. So hopefully they find him soon.

If it was another 14 year old, can he be tried as an adult? I’m not sure how that’s working in DC these days. The girls who beat the older disabled guy to death are actually being held in custody, surprisingly, but won’t be tried as adults.

Build more prisons and incarcerate criminals. Helps the community in so many ways; construction jobs, prison guard and support staff jobs, reduces guns on the street, reduces overall crime rates.

They still need to ‘pay’ or tap their free card. They can’t just jump the gate

I am just now leaving the scene of the fatal shooting involving a minor at the Brookland Metro Station. I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the victim. This senseless act of violence is traumatizing for our community.

What is known so far is that there was a fight involving a group of juveniles on the platform. A juvenile not involved in the fighting fired shots into the altercation, striking and killing the victim. 2 MTPD Special Officers who were at the station jumped into action.

MPD is currently coordinating with MTPD. Chief Smith shared that there will be increased presence in the area as they are actively working to solve the case. If anyone has information about this case, they are asked to call 202-727-9099 or text the anonymous tip line at 50411.

I know this is unsettling for neighbors and will be sharing more steps I’ll be taking with community partners to address the trauma caused by gun violence. I will also be doing everything I can to ensure the person responsible for this senseless killing is brought to justice.

What is your PLAN to deal with this, dude? We don’t need to “address the trauma” - we need to ARREST AND PROSECUTE CRIMINALS.

If they get tough on crime, it will disproportionately affect those of certain races. The council members therefore won't take steps in that direction.

And it will disproportionately save lives of certain races. But they don’t seem to care about that do they?

It’s not “disproportionately”. In fact it’s proportional to the people committing crimes in this area.

Go to West Virginia or Southern Virginia and you may find a different type of person “disproportionately” ‘affected’ by crime.

Also, they’re not affected by crime. They create the crime.
