WE NEED MORE VIEWERSHIP FOR WNBA
AND HIGHER SALARIES FOR THE PLAYERS
FINALLY FINALLY
Nobody wants to watch the WNBA. Bot even the die-hard feminists who begged for the league that has had to be subsidized by the NBA so that it can exist. Women’s NCAA is having a moment, but it will pass. It is fun to watch certain players but let’s not get delusional.
So nobody will watch these same players in the WNBA?
Probably not. I know a lot of people who watch March Madness but not the NBA.

WNBA regular season viewership was up 8% last year, and viewership for the finals series was up 13% over the previous year through two games when this article was written.

There is zero reason to think that as famous players move from the NCAA into the WNBA, they won’t attract viewers - that’s how lots of fans get into watching the NBA.
The bigger picture though is that networks for a long time treated the women’s game with palpable disdain. The highly criticized coverage of the 2021 tournament (and the much publicized laughable difference in facilities) kind of brought that to a head and the women’s game has been covered differently by the media over the past couple of years. ESPN’s Web site is a great example of the change (college basketball is now “NCAAM” and “NCAAW” in menus instead of “NCAA” for men and women’s basketball coverage somewhere with skeet shooting and luge. The 3 point shootout during NBA all star weekend is another example.
The PP who seems so threatened by coverage of the women’s game is a good example of that dinosaur attitude that’s becoming way less common.

Would she have brought this up if they lost?
Everything after the “but” is irrelevant BS. The girl was treated horribly. Racist slurs. Death threats. Nothing -NOTHING- about any of her actions warrants that.
It's not irrelevant at all. Nobody is justifying racist slurs, but she brought a lot of hate on herself with her behavior and actions, which were her choice. Both can be true.
Just remember Caitlin is unstoppable (or whatever her ad's catch line is). Granted she's never won, but the black stars on the winning teams aren't marketable.

They were actually both very marketable. Angel Reese has millions of dollars worth of deals as does Caitlin Clark.
Don’t make this another Brittany versus Christina Aguilera saga .
They’re both amazing, and they’re both millionaires
Angel Reese's earnings will likely go down in the WNBA. at LSU she made over 1MM.

Espn has been forcefeeding it down our throats.
The same can be said of the mens side. Mens college basketball might as well not exist outside of one weekend
Newsflash: the US pretty much only cares about football. Basketball, hockey, and baseball are niche sports. You're comparing who wins a distant 2nd place to the NFL, lol.
On a terrible weekend the NFL averages over 17M viewers per game. That's not even counting the playoffs or super bowl.
And yes, you're right, overall CBB might not as well exist at all except for march madness. People only watch excuse they love gambling.
Except women’s, World Cup had more viewers than NFL football. Sorry, not sorry.
Right. And despite millions of deep pocketed suburban fans women’s professional soccer is still not economically viable.
Women’s soccer and men’s soccer pretty much get the same viewership.

It's not justifiable, but it is imminently foreseeable. Nothing justifies death threats for anyone, but it is just the reality. Her behavior put a bigger target for hate on her back. A valuable lesson for a young person.
I’m confused with the lesson is? Caitlin Clark yells and screams and complains and makes a big fuss and there’s no target on her back.
So what’s the lesson if you’re black you need to keep your mouth shut?

Ha! Not even close. The women's world cup had 82M viewers. A far distant second to the Super Bowl which had 113M viewers. Stop making crap up.
You’re right the Taylor Swift Super Bowl beat women’s World Cup. A woman had to save the NFL, you’re welcome. No other Super Bowl beat women’s World Cup though.
Youre welcome

He was never much interested in girls' sports, I'm sorry to say, even when I was playing them. But as the quality of play in girls'/women's athletics has improved, he has come to be a huge fan. For him, women's college softball and basketball are appointment viewing, and he also likes women's soccer. It's been really gratifying to watch him grow into an unabashed fan. It's very interesting to see how it's changed his view of women generally. My old dad has become something of a feminist!
