Vanderbilt for the overall vibe and quality of students. Engineering isn’t their strongest area, but still highly competent. Best to be surrounded by an overall great university instead of techies only.

Would agree. Vanderbilt is easily the best overall school and a good place for smart, social, athletic students. Engineering is not their greatest strength, but I think Vandy engineering still ranks higher than all the listed schools except Maryland.

My best friend came down to Pomona and GW. She went to GW and has both her bachelors and masters from Elliott School.

Looking back, I should have prioritized major (politics) over school. Knowing what I know now, I should have applied to schools closer to or in DC. I applied to American, but was never serious about it - I should have been.

I would keep GW and Georgetown in the mix with UVA and W&M. As for final decision, that would come down to very personal factors.

Are you in state for UMass? Solid for engineering. Santa Clara stands out for being sole west coast option and generous merit. Have no idea if it has reputable engineering program. Congrats to your student - nice options to mull over -good luck!

Penn is Wharton and a little bit of engineering. No one thinks about the social science majors. And applications to Brown declined this year. Fair or not, it has a rep for rich kids floating through their self-guided curriculums while languishing in a mediocre city. Duke is more lively and varied and is generally good at everything. Plus more school spirit and better weather.

Very few people on East Coast know about it. People think it's in Sonoma ....Pomona-Somona.
