I totally sympathize with being an anxious person but I do t get this at all. If he’s not sweating it why are you? Both good schools, kinda similar “levels” so the deadline will come and he’ll pick one and he probably would like either.

Op here. He's only gone to each once last year as a junior with us. Wisconsin tour only and UGA tour plus out to a bar w a friend. The visits next month will be meeting other people in fraternities and going out, game, etc. I hope different as an admitted student vs touring as a junior.

No he will be meeting kids in frat, going out, touring business school hopefully, walking around campus and maybe drinking but not sure why you went from not attending a class to now binge drinking lol

Don’t panic. DD and DS couldn’t do visits due to COVID. They still managed to pick. Some kids procrastinate because they fear making the wrong choice and being stuck. We reassured our kids that they could always transfer if they were unhappy. We know lots of kids who thought they were choosing their dream schools only to transfer.

I think I waited until the night before decision deadline. I remember trying to ask my parents and they were so irritated I was interrupting Murder She Wrote and Matlock so it must have been a Sunday! I decided on my gut and it was fine. Your kid will also be fine.

I don’t think campus visits are that relevant here.

The real decision factors here are:

- Cost, if money is a big deal.

- Ease of getting the classes needed to graduate in four years.

- Ease of sliding into an easier major or drastically different major.

- Ease of adding a second major or minor.

- Ease of getting campus jobs and internships or jobs near campus.

- True cost of housing, and ability to get housing, over four years.

- Airport access.

The problem with campus visits is all you really know about is the buildings. The people are always changing.

Also, how are admitted student days different than the campus tour he did? Walking around with friend, meeting guys, gojng out, talking about majors and sports he may do- seems to be a good option seeing as he has already toured the campus and liked it.

Don't worry I'm not ruining it because I'm posting here not talking to him. The sports thing isn't just a practice. It's a national competition he's excited about sadly ha! Otherwise I would and have tried to tell him to skip it!

They will make sure you have the chance to sit in on panels in your prospective major, etc. and they really are there to celebrate your kid. Hanging out with high school friends that currently attend the school is not quite the same thing. By all means, do that too, but please don’t shortchange your kid by skipping the admitted student programming. Just walking around on your own is NOT the same thing. Your kid has great options and it basically will come down to his/her personal preference, unless you have a financial reason to prefer one over the other. May be that there is not obvious first choice and you/your child will just need to pick one. You never know which one is "better" or what is exactly the right decision. If it was clear, it wouldn't be a debate. So at some point this is an arbitrary decision.
