I can tell. They look pretty. I spend a lot on upkeep. I also get my hair and nails done weekly. I make a lot and save a lot. My retirement goals are being met!

It would be a waste of money for you, but not for me. Especially, because I can afford it.

I'm a busy mom of three young kids, working full-time, and I've gotten eyelash extensions about once or twice a year, usually before a big event or for example last year when I was on work travel for a week. I found a place where they do I'm super well, they don't look like those thick fake spider lashes, and if people realize they are extensions, I think, who cares! They are basically an alternative to mascara which is thick goopy paint you're putting on your eyelashes.

What I don't like now though is that it seems to be trending towards younger people. I see groups of middle school girls with terrible looking thick fake eyelashes. It makes me kind of sad, that they don't realize how beautiful they are naturally!

So they answer your question, I don't know if the fake lashes trend is on its way out, but I would say it's definitely growing in the younger age groups.

It's an Insta trend (like mega brows) that doesn't translate as well IRL.

There is no such thing as "subtle, well-done" lashes.

Subtle well done lash extensions can look nice.
I have a neighbor who had to dress up “full glam” and go to concerts, charity events, and awards dinners for her job 2-3 nights a week. She has lash extensions but they are not gaudy or obnoxious looking.

The people I know who always have manicured nails with almond shaped extensions, lash extensions, laminated and dyed brows, blow out perfect hair, etc. are people whose profession depends on their appearance to some extent. When I see a mom at the PTA meeting or soccer practice in sweats with no makeup - but lashes and nails - I assume she also has a glam job and I think “better her than me!”

Agree. They can look amazing when tastefully done, and it's nice to not have to put on much makeup because you have great lashes, but they are so expensive and time-consuming to maintain. My husband didn't even realize I had them done, just mentioned that I looked nice. I gave up on them, but miss them.

I'm a guy and if they are big enough for me to notice them at all, they are both fake and too big. I assume you are under 25 (or trying to be under 25) and your side hustle is being on camera a lot.

I don't do my beauty routine for men. I do them for me. Yes, I am vain and proud of it.

When they're not noticeable and appear to simply be naturally soft lashes, I have no thoughts about them because I don't know that they're there.

When they are obvious (e.g., my sister's), I think the person just hasn't taken a good, realistic look at themselves in the mirror or had anyone actually be honest about how they look.

When they are garish, well -- they're just garish. And it makes me sad that people in real life are trying to emulate the look of celebrities who only wear that stuff on stage or for events.

I don't wear lash extensions because I'm lazy but I have friends who do and you would never guess it. They look like nice normal lashes with zero mascara clumping because no mascara needed.

Yes. At the place I go for my lashes I see older women and women you would never stereotype as “glam” or whatever you want to call it. The older women get them because as you age your lashes become sparser. They look natural and pretty. Sure there are many women who go over the top with this but just as many women who do it and it’s not obvious.
