Carpet, especially when it’s replaced right before selling. What a waste when we all know it’s getting ripped out immediately.

+1
I don’t need a sitting room in a bedroom. Or columns.

Plain ole center hall style house where the kitchen stove and sink are clearly visible from the front door.

Any kind of spiral staircase is a deal breaker for me. I don’t like floating staircases, either.

Very irrational:
1. Use the dishwasher.
2. If you really need to hand wash something, you're looking down, not out the window at the trees.

I agree with pp. I've never had a kitchen sink that didn't have a window above it.

Kitchen sinks nowadays are on islands facing the living room.

Half baths facing the kitchen

No built in microwave above range

Carpet on the main level

Step in Decks freak me out . Why not just a yard?

Glass door step in showers. Annoying to clean tglass and very confining and the humidity is horrible for my curly hair! I’ll take a tub please but it’s almost impossible to find a master bedroom with a tub inclusion it’s almost all step in shower

Slanted ceilings
Too-big driveways and parking areas that have paved over too much grass
Built-in shelving
Those 90-style windows with the half circle on top

Anonymous wrote:No overhead lighting in upstairs rooms/bedrooms. Everytime I read that decorators think bedrooms shouldn't have overhead lights because they need softer light from stand-alone lamps I get mad.

One of the reasons I bought a new build house is so I could get all the lighting exactly right. I looked at about 40 existing houses before giving up (real estate price peak and modest budget in mainly older neighborhoods outside DMV).

that’s odd … you could just install the lighting you want!

Not at all irrational. Truly the worst.

I like my HOA a lot but it is fairly relaxed. I appreciate that people can't let their garden get out of control, need to get their roofs clean, can't have front yard clutter or pods, and that the common streets are always pristine and beautifully maintained. We only pay $800/year and that is all well worth it to me.

I hope they don't use Roundup.

No yard. What is the point of a house and no yard?

- Engineered wood flooring. Looks so cheap and fake. Real hardwood floors please.
- bathroom located direvtly off an eating area
- granite countertops
- clearly lots of $ spent on upgrades that are really poor design choices (like a recently Reno-d kitchen with 3 different tones of wood in the kitchen that don’t go well together)

This is my number one. I won't buy a house that has the garage doors in the front like that.
