Amplify CKLA is much more rigorous than Benchmark, so the transition may be tough--but outcomes should be better after students/teacher adjust.
The older version of the curriculum is available for free online--I think Amplify has the newer version so not sure how these compare:
Grades K-3: https://www.coreknowledge.org/language-arts/
Grades 4-5: https://www.coreknowledge.org/language-arts/
I hope that ultimately MCPS will continue the Amplify CKLA curriculum for grades 6-8, presuming implementation goes well at the ES level, as StudySync also leaves lots to be desired.
I’m reposting this with links to the public curriculum from page 1 of this thread for those who were asking for it.
There is nothing at those links. The download link is all gibberish.
I was able to get the entire curriculum for my child’s grade.
What grade? Post link. Not hard to post link, right?
Here is what I did:
Go to the "filter by" section and click on "language arts" under "subject." Choose whatever grade(s) you are interested in under "grade" and then select "English" under "language."
I got the 3rd grade curriculum to compare to what my 3rd grader is doing in Benchmark, but you can get any grade. This is one example of a 3rd grade unit (need to click on "download entire unit"): https://www.coreknowledge.org/free-resource/ckla-domain-04-ancient-roman-civilization/
This is the free version so might not be totally aligned with the Amplify version, but it gave me a good sense of how it is different from Benchmark.
Why is MCPS paying $30M for something that is freely available?
Just stop the trolling.

Just because something is free for individuals, does not mean you can then redistribute it to thousands without licensing. Additionally, there are things like professional development and support that need to be taken into consideration.

This is my area of expertise. I agree that RGR is great and I think teachers will find the approaches similar even if frustrating to switch over. I agree that keeping the option would have been good off k-2.
Amplify is just the publisher. It also publishes DIBELS. Didn’t create either CKLA or DIBELS.
Thanks Amplify.
Dibels is your product, has been for decades.

Going back to the purpose of the MCCPTA post, for those who support getting rid of Benchmark in favor of a more rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum, please email the BoE and urge them to adopt the Amplify CKLA curriculum at tomorrow's meeting:
boe@mcpsmd.org, Karla_Silvestre@mcpsmd.org, Lynne_Harris@mcpsmd.org, Brenda_Wolff@mcpsmd.org, Graciela_Rivera-oven@mcpsmd.org, Shebra_L_Evans@mcpsmd.org, Julie_Yang@mcpsmd.org, Rebecca_K_Smondrowski@mcpsmd.org, Sami_N_Saeed@mcpsmd.org
The original RFP is useless. The entire process was started over and MCPS picked the same no bid vendor they have been using for over 15 years.
What perks have mCPS administrators been receiving from this company over those years?
Who were the other bidders? Name them if you think this has been an open, transparent process.
You seem to have a particular problem that has nothing to do with whether or not the curriculum in question is worthy of replacing Benchmark. If you have a problem with the curriculum state it.
Where is the curriculum posted for review?
Its Core Knowledge from Amplify. You can look it up.
Then not available for MCPS parents. Good to know.
And this is why DCUM criticism is so stupid. Rather than take six seconds and use Google and learn something, you leave this stupid comment.
Then post the link. A google search goes to the company and they want you to contact sales dept. if you have a link to the actual curriculum why don’t you post it?
You can Google the curriculum and see an overview of what is taught by each grade level.
Links to the free public version of the curriculum are posted online.
