To his dismay, he remarked that it resembled broccoli! He has thick, straight, black hair. Can anyone recommend a good place to get it done, and what's the typical cost for this service?

Tons of teenage girls get their hair colored, straightened on their parents' dime without anyone thinking about it.

Look at any group of teen boys. It’s not the 80s perms you are imagining. Here’s a quick search on Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/pin/for-baylor--165436986300671372/
Not, PP, but gosh -- I actually think that style is cute.

I used to get straightening perms until this study came out: https://nihrecord.nih.gov/2023/01/06/study-finds-hair-straightening-chemicals-raised-uterine-cancer-risk#:~:text=The%20women%20were%20followed%20for,likely%20to%20develop%20uterine%20cancer.
You are most likely right that one perm isn't going to make a difference. But what if a teen likes the results and starts getting them regularly. I know the article is about women, but I can't imagine there isn't effects on the male body as well.
