I love my son who is a teen but we’ve been apart for a month once and for 6 weeks another time and spoke only once (he stayed with his dad fwiw).

So they are normally controlling and you have some kind of emotional dependency on that/them because in order to be willing to be controlled, they must offer something of value.

They probably know that being controlling 12 months out of the year is a lot for anyone to bear so they disappear for two months so that you’ll miss them, creating higher demand for them upon their return. Controlling people are also manipulative.

Your original question was do we think this is an acceptable level of communication with you and your adult siblings, and most ppl responded yes.

Now you bring up grandkids.

I'm in the camp of letting them enjoy their vacation and be unplugged from the home world. What any of us, or you, for that matter, think of the frequency of communication doesn't matter. They do not want to bother during their vacation and are setting boundaries. Respect that.

Then they are just weird. I would understand if they were on a week or two week vacation. I find it odd that they change residences for two months out of the year and just don’t want to talk to you.
