If you worked for me, or anyone in our office, we'd have a talk, you'd explain what happened, you might get a warning or reprimand in your file, but you would not be fired. You know you made a mistake, apologize, explain your confusion, what you did to try and correct it, and steps you will take so that it doesn't happen again. And then get back to work!

Upon reviewing our records, it appears that there was indeed an error in registering you for the conference. It seems there was a misunderstanding on my part, possibly due to the simultaneous scheduling of two conferences in the same city.
I understand the importance of these events for your professional development, and I deeply regret any inconvenience this has caused you. I am taking immediate steps to rectify the situation by contacting the conference organizers and arranging for your registration.
Please rest assured that I will implement better systems to ensure such mistakes do not happen again in the future. If there is anything else I can do to assist you with this matter, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Once again, I apologize for any frustration or inconvenience this may have caused, and I appreciate your understanding.
Dang girl thats awesome you must have to BS a lot for your job.

“Look, sh.t happens. I forgot to register you. I am sorry. The only question now is what are you going to do about it? You go to a lot of conferences. Now there is one you don’t get to go to. You have to make a choice: cry and whine about it like a little baby, or man up, turn up your collar, and head out into the night to discover what delights the city can deliver to a discerning gentleman.”
😂
I will desperately need an update to this post. Did he get into his very exclusive European conference?
OP here. No, he didn't get in. I used a chart to keep track of the conferences in 2023 when I started getting overwhelmed - clearly I need to make one for 2024 to keep track of things. And I'm not going to tell him to get a hooker - his wife traveled there with him.
