Unless it happens at a school the local journalists' kids attend.

Good grief! This is bonkers. I’m a former treasurer for a NWDC PTO with significant assets. I remember going to the bank with a baggie full of coins after a bake sale to make sure every cent got deposited. I can’t imagine seeing how hard everybody works at fundraising and seeing up close how the money is spent benefiting the school and then just spending it to get my nails done.

That's fantastic news. Are they going to do the same thing for the former Lafayette treasurer that failed upwards at a non-profit?

But why is this thread about the years-old situation rather than the current one?

You know why.

I actually don't.

You don't understand why a similar example in the same school district and the (lack of) consequences for the perpetrator might be relevant?

Well maybe the hirer can tell us what the mitigating circumstances of stealing $40,000 and trying to launder it out of the country were?

It was not returned quickly. She had even sent it overseas to try and hide it.

It was returned when police got involved, in a (successful) attempt to avoid prosecution. Her job was to manage budgets for USAID -- I wonder if she was stealing from them too.

You can still find her name if you search the way back machine, she is listed as the treasurer for accounts payable, then disappears later in the year:

It looks like she worked USAID contractors, so she wouldn't necessarily need a clearance, but she. may have been managing budgets for these companies. Surprised that they never pressed charges though.

Woah, looks like she now works at Conservation International AND was hired by a Lafayette parent!

That is wild. Who would hire someone they knew stole from the PTA? Horrible.

Failing upwards in upper NW. But even then I can't imagine putting my own job on the line by vouching for someone that I know stole $40,000 from an elementary school PTA.
