F&M has an undergraduate business program that you have to apply for during your freshman year which is a big draw for some students.

No one is paying that, though. My friend's kid paid about $35K per year. High but not super-high stats.

Barely known to you maybe. SAT range is 1300-1460, these are bright kids at a top 50 school. Again, not every school is top 10.

F&M is ranked 31st by USN and has a 32% acceptance rate. It's a pretty little liberal arts school that should be considered a target/safety for kids looking at SLACs. This isn't that complicated.

Does this college even has any kind of standing?

It's a generic good but not great SLAC. As much as the initial posters debated F&M vs Dickinson and Gettysburg, I'd lump them together along with Skidmore, most of the Ohio SLACs (Denison, Kenyon, Oberlin minus the conservatory), St Olaf, Macalester and a dozen other schools and consider them interchangeable.

They might be similar in terms of being LACs that aren’t the highest selectivity, and that PP isn’t interested in, but the above are wildly different schools. Strongly recommend not lumping them together

For a very smart MC kid who wants to go to a SLAC and needs merit, applying to several of those schools and taking the one that offers the best merit would be a normal strategy

Agree, and that’s what my second kid did! But to say that Gettysburg, St. Olaf, and Oberlin are “interchangeable” is misleading. A kid will have very different experiences on each of those campuses

If a SLAC is a requirement and you need merit, they aren't all interchangeable but there are several overlapping groups depending on the kid

True. It would be interesting to see people’s categorizations of which schools should be clustered — my sense is that Dickinson and Denison are the best F&M overlaps? But I’ve not seen F&M when school is in session

F&M and Lafayette are the most overlapped at our school. Same scores, same range in Naviance, same rank.

F&M is also known internationally because it inspired an Italian sportswear company: https://www.franklinandmarshall.com/en/pages/our-stories

I remember seeing F&M shirts in the UK and Italy and wondering what was going on!
