Look, I am not crazy and I expect BG checks and questions about the application.
What I don’t expect is an officer asking me to explain how I understand the oath of allegiance and asking me to explain it, and then mansplaining it to me. This has nothing to do with fraud or national security!
This is just the latest example but not the only one.

Ok. Look at the questions on the N-400 citizenship application. One of them is whether you understand the oath of allegiance. If you did not say yes, then it is an issue. But asking you to go further and explain it if you already said yes is out of line. I highly recommend that you write a letter to the field office director of that office. You can always send an anonymous letter.

Is it possible that because of your bland demeanor, they think there's a language barrier? Sometimes I can't tell if the person I'm talking to understands me or is just saying yes yes to get it over with.

I'm a government employee, not in immigration. But I often switch gears and call the interpreter service and once we get to talking through an interpreter learn the person has lots of questions and lots of input they weren't even trying to communicate before. And when I offered an interpreter they declined at first (but I do it anyway if I think it's needed).
