Yes. And they will also cremate the body after a year or so, and will give ashes to you in an urn. I was researching Hindu/Sikh/Jain cremation in Maryland and came across this PDF. The details of donating to science is listed in this PDF

No, I've seen the family of the 107 year old man and they all look pretty ordinary. And at that point, the granddaughter would be like in her sixties, her parents are already dead, and there's nothing left of the really old guys money, his children's money, and his grandchildren are already retirement age. Do his great grandchildren go into debt to pay for this nursing home? What about their kids

If your FIL had a DD214 (military separation form) he is eligible for free burial at a VA cemetery. Other monetary burial benefits have quite narrow restrictions. Spouses are also eligible for free burial in a VA cemetery.

Yea but what does plan for your future mean? My mom is in assisted living and has 5 years of nursing home covered by her insurance. She is 88. Her nursing home just posted a picture of a guy in the home turning 107! Did his family pay for twenty years of assisted living at 90j a year? That’s insane! No one can plan for that!

The stock market says otherwise. This family likely has a sizable stock portfolio with dividends.

Which no family should have to liquidate to provide safe, clean, proper care for our countries elderly. Revolting that people think so.

My plan. Going to be small and fun. Raise a glass and move on.

The government pays for cremation if there is no money and no family. Cost to the government is $600
