We have a school sponsored activity tomorrow (music related), and were told if FCPS opens by 11 it will still be on. So at least one teacher is thinking it might happen?

The volunteers who run his league have been scrambling all season dealing with closures and reschedules and ref re-staffing and gyms unexpectedly locked etc in addition to all the regular work. It definitely does suck. Its honestly amazing anyone volunteers to run these leagues and deal with FCPS on top of parents.

The last weekend cancellation, we had several parents email our rec league asking if they would receive a partial refund of their registration fee if their game was not rescheduled. Like, they thought it was reasonable for our community league to process $8.00 refunds for every family if we couldn't reschedule. One of those same parents complained again when we rescheduled games for weeknights. We have no space!

DS has a basketball game Saturday in the afternoon, we are expecting it to be cancelled. Such is life. It sucks but it is not the end of the world.

If FCPS or Fairfax County NCS did extra work to make up for the hassle they caused a community group, you could knock me over with a feather. But stranger things have happened.

Maybe have your league complain to your sport representative at the Fairfax County Athletic Council (basketball and volleyball both have a representative and an alternate and whoever pulls permits for your league should know all the right contacts)? There have been complaints about FCPS messing with permits for surprise school activities, so maybe this complaint would be at least heard by FCAC?

The leagues that get the permits pay extra to have custodians come in on the weekends. If the building closes, the custodians still keep the extra pay.

Maybe FCPS has to pay overtime for snow clearing or something, but the custodians are already being paid extra on the weekend.

All the basketball league playoffs are this weekend, so it will totally ruin that. Not sure if they will able to be rescheduled so the season just ends with no playoffs and championships. Absolutely ridiculous to close for such a small amount of projected snow.

Our team has 2 on Saturday. If they get canceled, we will end the season with just 10 games instead of 14. Super lame.

They are super quick to close on weekends because it doesn't affect instruction. They don't care about extracurriculars.
