We never do anything for Valentine’s Day, so we stuck with that tradition. He DID, however, order flowers for his girlfriend which seems a bit uncool.

What would you have wanted instead? was the issue the quality if the flowers? What did you do for him?

We didn’t agree to it but at some point just grew beyond the obligatory and contrived nature of Valentines Day. FYIY, we have a thriving marriage that, even after 23 years, is full of love, passion, and affection.

Agree! We did some fun stuff for the kids (who are 4 and 8) - surprise decorations, heart shaped food, small unwrapped gift. They asked where our Valentines are and we told them in our family it’s a fun holiday for kids.

Really hoping to instill that idea young so they don’t have to go through the angst of caring about it.

I did get the kids something cute and small. We are thankful neither of us has expectations but we agreed we weren't gift people decades ago

But shopping for Christmas or birthday presents? Not on your life. He will look up from his work on Christmas Eve and ask what I got for everyone, including the kids. And sometimes not even that - he just finds out when they open their presents. He will get me one useful, practical gift on Amazon, but I'm the only person he shops for.

I hope your husband hasn't entirely forgotten, OP. Maybe you can suggest something this evening.

Valentines Day is Feb 14 each year. Put it on your phone once (on repeat), and you are reminded. No need to watch the news for re-occurring holidays. Come on!!

Because gift giving isn’t everyone’s love language. I hate giving gifts, and I don’t much like getting gifts either. Thankfully DH are on the same page.

Nah, I like gifts. I don't like obligatory gift-giving holidays. "I saw this and thought of you" gifts are awesome. "It's valentine's day and I know you expect me to give you something, so here's a thing." nsm.
