Agree on both counts. Jane Austens dialogue was perfection and the BBC dialogue captures it so well. Especially Lydia’s nonsense- the actress does it so well. “He’s threatened to dance with us all!” I was dying.
Wedding scene was lame at the end.
And sorry but BBC Jane wasn’t prettier than Elizabeth. But she captures the essence of Jane very well.

I can see the authenticity complaints, but I don’t “feel” them. I appreciate but do not love the BBC version. I think Jennifer Ehle is too old. And though I understand and find somewhat persuasive claim that Lizzie is SUPPOSED to be judgmental, I don’t think she’s supposed to actually be older than 21. I think Keira Knightley conveys the judgmental nature of youth well. I’m not at all persuaded that the 995 Jane is a beauty according to Edwardian standards, and even if she is I don’t think it makes it a better movie. I prefer MM’s awkward, ardent Darcy.

I 1000% agree with PP about Wickham, and the PP who said 1995 Lydia was perfectly cast. And the secondary character who totally stole the 1995 version was the guy who played Mr. Collins! He was perfection, so smarmy and horrible and yet hilarious. Charlotte Lucas was also really well cast.
My hot take on the 1995 vs 2005 P&P debate: girls who have warm, close relationships with their dad prefer the 2005 version, because a major feature is the relationship between keira knightly and donald sutherland. 1995, the focus is on Elizabeth overcoming her totally embarrassing family, and the dad is just this complete dolt who hides in the library.
