I’m assuming the people rationalizing not showering have never been members at such a perk-filled club.

Nah, I just prefer to shower at home. I won't even shower at our country club.

As shocking it is to you that I might drive home from the gym 5 minutes without showering, it is equally as shocking to me that anyone would prefer showering in a gym shower. For all the reasons people have listed. But I also understand that people have different preferences so it’s never upset me to this level

But yes there are a million reasons I would only shower at the gym as a last resort!

Maybe. I’m a PP who doesn’t shower at the gym. I don’t want or need to pay $320/month for my gym membership though, so I pay $34/month for my basic gym (actually the low-end brand in the Equinox group) and it works just fine. I like to be in and out.

Many employers cover health club membership fees.

It is like flying private or even first class. Everyone is okay with cattle class until they get a taste of a luxury good. You don't know what you don't know. Same in the college sub forum on dcum where folks who've never stepped foot on an Ivy League campus call them overrated. lol

Wow people stink up cars and breakout if they wait 15-30 minutes to shower.

Check your diet people.

There is a huge difference between valuing a luxury product or service and not understanding why anyone would want that product or service if it wasn't that level of luxury. That is what OP is saying (" wouldn’t want to work out if I didn’t have that access.")
That is like saying I don't understand people who have cars if they aren't a BMW or not understanding why people have housing at all if it isn't a 5M property with all the high end finishes.

People, even UMC and UJC people have some constraint to their resources and value things differently. I don't understand people who don't understand that.

And it is even worse to judge a person who is putting the time, money, and effort into exercising for not doing it the way you do it.

Yep, my family is Korean and none of us smell (even the teen boys), thanks to the weird no body odor/dry ear wax gene. We don't even wear deodorant. We do sweat, but not a lot, and the sweat does not smell.

I would not shower at the gym anyway, though. Seems like a ton of extra effort when I could just drive 5 min. back home where all my stuff is to shower.

Are you the person who can “smell outside” and is offended by the odor?
Because have you never hiked, played at the park on a hot summer day with your kids?
Not to mention the sweaty post 5k, soccer, or basketball kids I’ve had in my car for an hour plus many many times.
Or the soaked 14 year old who spent the day wandering the woods with his friends and occasionally playing in the river…

Leaving the gym without a shower would definitely be the least of my worries.

Even if you’re not super sweaty, your clothes and hands are gross from being all over the equipment. Being able to steam or sauna after a work out and shower with fresh towels is my fav part of my fitness routine. I wouldn’t want to work out if I didn’t have that access. Yet all these gyms without towels and showers look packed day and night.

This is so dumb. Most of us are extraordinarily busy. You think we have time to "steam and sauna"? Bring wipes, get your pits and bits, and be done with it. This is such a 1%'er problem.

Steam OR sauna

I’m a member of a gym that has no towels or showers. I just need a bare-bones setup with a treadmill for my run, so I don’t need or want extras baked into the price.

I wear a sports bra and leggings to run and add a layer on top (usually the Lululemon Define Jacket, as a reference) to go between my bra and my coat so the coat doesn’t get sweaty. If it’s not cold I just do the layer, and if it’s hot I don’t bother with it at all. I walk 10 blocks home and immediately shower when I’m back. I’ve belonged to a gym with nice shower facilities too, and I actually prefer this (no showers) - I’m in and out much faster and don’t need to bring toiletries.

“Bathing” with wet wipes? Disgusting.
