I’m on the side of the US. I have family members who fought for independence and others who fought against the southern traitors. And I’d fight the 1/6 insurrectionists if I had to.

DP. Now that the PP has mentioned it, I can't unsee it. She's looking to see what kind of log she laid. She's definitely NOT leaning on the shield, the tension in her muscles are wrong as is the tilt of her body. That was definitely deliberate.

I'd never paid attention to the statue (acknowledging my privilege) until this thread but since I have degrees in the Classics, I thought it was time to see what imagery was on the monument. Wow! Talk about unsubtle unrepentance and white supremacist! And that quote in Latin! Another WOW! I could write a tome about its inclusion on the state but, suffice to say, it alone makes it clear the monument is not about peace and reconciliation. Of course, what would you expect when the artist was, himself, a Confederate?

This was in that lovely Wikipedia article the 'you're trying to erase history' PP referenced. For sure, this statue doesn't represent white supremacy and heroic people willing to die to keep others enslaved.

The inclusion of the "faithful black servants" was purposeful. Sculptor Moses Ezekiel included them because he wanted to undermine what he called the "lies" told about the South and slavery in Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1852 novel Uncle Tom's Cabin and wished to rewrite history "correctly" (his word) to depict black slaves' support for the Confederate cause.

Why would you think that? Most of us (Americans) agree that the Confederates were not heroes, but some of us apparently disagree and wish to continue honoring people who fought on the side of preserving the legal right to own people.
