Computers and technology aren’t the same- at all. This is a luxury item and a status symbol for a 13 yr old. Don’t let your 13 be that girl. She will then want a Chanel bag at 18 and be convinced she “deserves” it. So many young women fall into the luxury trap: high end skin care, high end makeup, luxury bags and clothing items, and then they waste their money away because they feel entitled to these luxuries. Teach her to buy things of value and substance, whether it is your money or her own.
I agree with you. These other products may be expensive as well, but they have a utility other than showing off.
